Hi Angie,

Thanks for your advice! I have this jacket in the "return" box, and a couple of shorter (and, hopefully, more fitted) jackets on order.

I also think that the jacket is too long. I vote return and find something shorter and more fitted through the torso. It fits really well from the bust up. Great colour too!

shiny, I totally agree about being picky in this case. That's why I ended up not buying anything last year and may end up not buying a leather jacket this year either.

I keep my eyes open for pleather jackets, too, and tried some on last year but did not find anything I liked.

I think you can do better. This one doesn't read "lady like" to me.

So, all this talk about leather jackets has me surfing this morning. Here's my thought: it's such an expensive purchase, one should be ultra super picky and settle for nothing less than perfection. If one is unsure about the best style and/or color, and how it will play in one's wardrobe, my advice is to try a pleather jacket or two on for awhile. They are much cheaper, and pleather has come such a long way, most people would not be able to tell the difference (people often think my two pleather jackets are real leather). This gives you permission to spend less, maybe by two or three instead of one, then see how it works in your closet before committing to a real leather piece. There are a lot more pleather options around right now, than leather, if you go surfing. Take a look.

Claire, I remember that discussion. I wear BLAZERS all the time with coats layered over. I've never given that a bit of thought.

And I had imagined I'd wear a thin leather jacket like a blazer.

But the ones I tried just felt too heavy for that. I wouldn't be comfortable doing it. So I guess that answers my own question, in a way.

Weirdly, though, contrary to what I'd thought, I WOULD be comfortable wearing them indoors (I think) without another jacket on top.

Sveta was talking about layering UNDER her leather jacket - and this is the part that blew me away. I couldn't imagine doing that, given the fit of these. On me, I mean.

I like this Makrame - I think it's classic and could be quite versatile going from casual to dressy. To my eye it does not look snug at all - if anything I wondered if it looked a little loose in the back.

Sarah, it does not feel snug, just looks a bit snug to me in some photos. And Suz, it's good to know that leather stretches; I did not realize that.

Claire, I guess I don't know how fitted a leather jacket should be. It's like with denim jackets - took me a few iterations to get one that was cropped enough for wearing with dresses.

This looks good, but is it fitted enough through the torso? It's hard to tell. The color looks nice on you.

@Suz, Angie told me last year that she wears her black biker jacket indoors all the time. And she wears a coat on top of it for outdoors. We all had quite a discussion and some forum members thought wearing any type of coat indoors looked like you were ready to *bolt* and most wouldn't wear a coat over a jacket. I felt like it gave me permission to a) keep warm and b) layer two not-warm-enough coats to make my wardrobe work better.

Also, about the "snug" fit - the SA at Danier told me that one SHOULD buy the jacket snug because it gives and will stretch out.

In fact, she told me that the other SA in the store had to go get her jacket that she bought RESIZED down because it stretched a full size on her.

I kept thinking, well, maybe if it hadn't been so tight it would not have stretched so much. But I might be wrong about that.

I think it looks really great - I like the simple lines, and it doesn't look too snug zipped to me. Does it feel snug?

Yes, I agree, it's tough being a leather jacket novice! I just finished admiring your leather jacket options - both of the Danier jackets look really cool (I like the unusual collars and the interesting hemlines, as well as the colors on you).

Also, I am hoping someone will tell us how we can tell an outerwear jacket (in leather) from an indoor one or one meant to take the place of a blazer. Some are obvious - leather heavier, a heavier lining, etc. But the ones I tried on today at Danier I thought were for potential indoor wear and Sveta told me they were not.

It's a gorgeous jacket. I remember seeing it on Inge.

I am going through the same growth spurt - trying to decide whether to splurge on a leather jacket. I also do not own one.

This fulfills all your style requirements. It's hard to say about the fit or the colour. And if YOU are not sure, why not hold onto it a while and compare?

I noticed that cciele posted a K/R on her first leather jacket. I also don't own any leather jacket but have been thinking about getting one. I tried one last year but did not like it.

This is "Inge's" jacket - Tahari Tilly in sangria. Looks just a bit tight zipped but I think sizing up would not work (shoulders and sleeves would be too big). I am not sure if this is "the one" - maybe the color is too dark for me? I will hold on to it and order some other jackets from Nordstrom but I am curious what you think.

I am looking for something fairly dressy/ladylike and suitable for various occasions.
