I don't think the hood is sloppy at all...quite stylish. I agree with Angie that it is worth trying the petite. Where I see it may be a little long is at the waist. I think this is probably the right size, but I have ordered the petite now just to be on the safe side. I am pretty sure it will be tight in the shoulder and the sleeves will be too short, but as Angie said, the peace of mind is worthwhile. I think this works really well for a NY winter.  Firstly, the length will be nice if you're on foot, or taking public transit.  Secondly, this coat, with it's feminine shape and deep, but rich color, is "prettier" than the typical, functional puffer. Does not look too long in sleeves. I prefer removable hoods, but that's because I don't need a hood every day and so many come with hoods, natch. But I think treating it sort of like a stand collar is fine and works on you. I bought a Tahari puffer 2 or 3 years ago in a dark purplish color. It has a big puffy collar which I don't love, but when I'm visiting Chicago in the winter, it is fine.  I remember having two toddlers two years apart. Boys. What I really liked was the color and flattering-looking cut. I am awaiting my first New York winter, but I already have a black down coat, and I am on a tight budget so I really only want to keep this one if it is outstanding. I don't think that black suits me very well. The color on this coat is a little darker than I expected, but my main concern is whether the hood is too sloppy. I am leaning toward keeping because I don't think the price, color, and quality is easy to come by, but I am open to all feedback. Also I did not order the petite even though I am very short. The sleeve length seems okay. Does the length seem okay? I know it is much longer on me than on the model. Thanks so much for your help. I will try to get on the forum more in the next couple weeks to help other posts. I used to be around here a lot, but two small children have brought the all-powerful Scarlet to her knees, LOL. ETA: I just tried it on again and I think my real concern is, is this just too much coat for me? Maybe I need to try the petite to be sure.
