It's one of the "optic dot" patterns, so it's not a solid... but it doesn't feel like any T shirt I've ever worn! It's cotton, but is a bit firm, if that makes any sense. It's not thick, but not scrunchy, either. It doesn't cling to my lumps and bumps, which makes it perfect for me. Just thought I'd mention it in case you have stores that you can check, and also in case they have it in other colors or solids. With regard to sizing, I take a XS in the JC perfect-fit tee (although I've only tried their long-sleeve crewnecks, not the boatnecks) and my measurements are approximately 32 bust/28 waist.
