Bj1111, Sydney is like other big cities in that you will find a very large number of people wearing black and other neutrals. Summer in Sydney has variable temperatures and can be humid with the occasional shower.

What Sal said. Here’s what I said on Angie’s thread about summer trends here, but it is pretty much anything goes:

Lots of dresses with cut outs or one shoulder or in strapless styles

Lots of shirt dresses (longer and shorter), many in utility styles

Skirts tend to be very long or very short. Long skirts tend to be straight, a-line or single tiered (fewer multi tiered). Short skirts tend to be a-line. I’ve even seen some skorts (which are a bit of a unicorn item).

Pants are long and wide and either full length or the new shorter full length. They are commonly styled with a waistcoat, halter neck top or one shoulder top. Or long jacket.

Jackets are long and tending oversized

Tops are cropped

Lots of halter neck and one shouldered tops

Lots of crochet

Lots of metallics

Lots of white and off white

Lots of blue

Lots and lots of pinstripe. I think it’s THE pattern of the Summer.

Not seeing a lot of pattern generally and most patterns tend to be larger scale and graphic (contrasting). The ditsy prints of previous seasons seem to be gone. There is not much floral at all (which is surprising). And not much of the more abstract, blurry prints that I like.

Also seeing skirts, dresses and tops with very long fringes and pants, dresses and skirts with see through parts. Seems to be a thing.

Fewer ruffles and tiers than previous seasons. Fewer earthy colours. Less pattern. I would say a less exuberant, and more neutral and streamlined look is on the rise here.

I hope you have a great time. NYE in Sydney is the best!

We were in Sydney last NYE ... In general the style we saw included lots of neutrals including plenty of black, lots of linen, flowy, relaxed silhouettes and shoes that allowed for walking the hilly terrain. There were a few days where a light warmer layer was needed for evenings. I think you'll feel totally comfortable in black, white and olive summer-weight pieces. Don't forget a sunhat of some sort. Enjoy!!

As with most large cities - you can wear anything as it’s an eclectic mix.

My take on Sydney style is that it’s quite confident, fun, but also easy. Definitely take great footwear for walking and a hat for sun protection. Tash Sefton is an instagrammer from Sydney that I follow.

Have fun - it’s a stunning city to visit!!!

As a Sydney sider, I recommend be prepared for changeable weather. Currently it’s a very humid 20-22 Celsius with drifting rain! For NYE, if we are lucky it will be about 27 Celsius during the day, with a brisk north easterly breeze on the harbour from about 2pm, keeping everything pleasant. The north easterly wraps up about 10pm, and then it’s still- you’ll only need the wrap if you run cold.
So if you are on the Harbour and outside, a light cotton wrap or cardigan is a good idea, for wind protection. Jeans-weight is typically too hot at this time of year, breathable is better, so think linen and lighter cotton. Sun protection is a must! Hat and sunglasses. And be prepared to walk, as transport plans can get disrupted by the crowds.
There are lots of different style tribes in Sydney, of course. On the beaches, the trend would be boho resort glam (drifty dresses and palazzo pants in light fabrics, worn with with big earrings and strappy sandals, floppy hat and sunglasses during the day). In the more urban areas, black quirky gamine style is trendy.
I’ve put some of my photos up of last years NY- it’s a fun night.

I'm betting black is big in Sydney, though maybe less so in what is summer there.

Wait til you go and buy something there. You could also go with navy and white jeans. Or olive and get something red to wear with it.

Am going to Sydney for nye —as a lover of black clothing, I need some tips on current street style to “summer up” beyond bondi bikinis.

I love @brooklyn’s series on desert inspired wear, tho my colors do not stretch beyond navy, the odd olive and white jeans
