@notsaf-the boho persona comes out in warm (hot) weather (high summer). I’m already doing some thinking on what to add to my small boho capsule this year. It’s an itch I have to scratch every year, but not my dominant style.

Wow, Carla! I envy the way your wardrobe works so well for you! It’s obvious how much care and planning you have done - it’s paying off in spades. I love your wear analysis and agree with you on laundering. I am trying my best to be vigilant about washing/drying practices (had access to a stackable unit on vacation this week that fried a couple of my tee shirts, even on delicate—ugh). I baby my favorite pairs of jeans in particular, and hand wash all of my knits now.

Frequent washing is wearing garment and so does drying on high ( or not so high ) temperature. Ideally jeans should be hang dry but there is often no time to go through all that trouble.
I try to do 10 wears of jeans before washing it but I don't own white jeans anymore ( applause to Carla - looking great in perfect white jeans any season! ) and sunny CA is pretty neat and clean in winter.

Interesting thoughts on wear. I am trying to launder more thoughtfully.

That's a great insight on the number of washes. Even taking into account that some fabrics wash better than others and some construction details allow things to hold up better in the laundry, I think we can agree that laundering contributes significantly to the wear and tear on a garment.

I'm in awe that you can wear white jeans 4-5 times between laundering. I can't even manage that with light blue ones.

My take away: you do an excellent job wearing everything in your closet, and you are neat and don't dribble on yourself. You can get away without over laundering your clothing. You look great in those white jeans and it is so very Angie to wear white jeans in the winter!

Yes laundry damages clothing, as do animals (moths, dogs and cats!). I find a way to tell quality clothing is how well it launders. The better the fabric, the better the stains wash out. Cheap fabric, stains do not wash out. (I'm looking at you, Zara. Uniqlo fabrics wash MUCH better.)

@lisap-you know, the white jeans are as warm as any other jeans, and though I do occasionally have a mishap (you know, pasta) I generally get 4-5 wears between laundering. Since they are 98% cotton, I wash them with the sheets or towels - hot water, and sometime bleach! I have 2 pair just into their 3rd year.

Hair is same cut/style. I get it cut every 3 months, and had it cut at the start of the month. Curls most after gym/shower. Gets flattened by hat.

You're the only woman I know in Canada who can wear white jeans in winter and look chic. You rock Is your hair shorter? I like it! And I agree with the frequent washing-as-killing-garments. Again with the white jeans, but having to wash them after every other wear means mine rarely last more than 2 seasons. I'm dying to get mine out again for spring !

My interpretation of SYC is Style Your Closet. I’m not going to have a ‘no buy’ year, but I did want to challenge myself to go through my closet and Wear It All - with an emphasis on going through my 25 different tops. I also started counting wears from January 1 in order to better understand what 30 wears is all about.* That said, I didn’t add anything to my closet this month.

A two week Caribbean vacation influenced my clothing choices and provided an opportunity to get sleeveless tops into rotation. During the month I wore 6/8 pants, but also 2 pairs of shorts. 10/25 tops saw action. Additionally 2/5 dresses were worn, and mix and match bikini components got a workout. The most worn garment (not counting winter outerwear) was a rash-guard swim shirt bought in January and worn 10 times.

Since the start of the year, 7/8 pants have seen action, and 20/25 tops. Bottoms get worn 4-5 times before having to be laundered, and tops from 1-4, depending on activity. 5 tops saw 4 wears each before going into the laundry basket..

*My thoughts on wear numbers and ‘wearing out’ has got me thinking that it isn’t the number of times a garment is worn that causes breakdown, so much as laundering. I have one pair of jeans that I’ve worn 16 times since the start of the year, however they have gone through the wash 3 times. If 30 ‘washes’ has a garment breaking down or looking tired, a garment that can be worn 3-4 times before laundering should get 100 wears! I can see how summer items, which might be laundered more frequently, might last 1 or two seasons, and how winter items, which might be laundered less, would last 3-5 or more years.

Some outfits from the past 10 days...
