In May I purchased, cropped leggings, 2 skinny belts, a new bra, new hose, and underwear for a total of about $90. I think these were my first purchases since Jan. 1!

I recently lost 25 lbs so SYC is not an option (naturally I had long given up on ever being this size again so donated all my "skinny" clothes). I'm slowly rebuilding but some days are tough (and I only have spring/summer items so far) I had to throw my budget out the window so I look decent at work. I also realized I need to buy quality pieces, but am always tempted to get quantity when I'm this desperate. I solve this with shop binge followed by returns. All itches are scratched.

My shopping budget depends on cash I save up in my cash-for-fashion pouch! I save it up for trips and internet shopping. I still have some in there. I want some blue colored skinny jeans and another pair of sandals. And I also may need a few more ultra-hot weather things sometime later.

Like you I am having to learn the lesson of quality over quantity. My major challenge now is to stop buying cheap stuff that looks trashed quickly. I impulse purchased two striped tops at TJ Maxx for $18 and $10 respectively, and after a couple of washings, they are ready to be retired. It's not a lot of money but it could have gone towards things that last.

Whenever I decide to SYC a ton of stuff I like shows up in the stores. And then the month or two afterward I won't find anything I like and so I'll end up SYCing without intending to. Yet despite these ebbs and flows that depend on what the stores are offering, I'm still feeling fairly in control about my shopping. I'm feeling good about when I buy for full price and when I wait for a sale, and I'm sticking to items that are either on my list, or that once I try on I realized should have been on my list.

I am supposed to be SYC - but as there isn't that much in my closet, and some of what is there is *not right* it's not going that well! But it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago, so I have some cash and a gift card for one store, plus 'permission' from my husband to spend *some* money ! So far all I seem to have done is order and return shoes *sigh* - have ordered some more today - but they are to fill a very definite hole, and will mean that I can make more outfits out of what I have. I am planning to go and spend the gift card soon (it's school break here, so the shops are very busy, I'm waiting until all the children go back to school!)

You are really clever to schedule SYB during your birthday season!

I am doing OK... broke ranks to order a jacket with closet purge money, but I've already talked out the guilt over that one. I have passed up a lot, so Macy's had better have a good selection for me to use my CC rewards gift card on, or I'll be majorly put out. Seems like the biggest deterrent to current shopping is the promise of future shopping.

I ordered a few things from the Nordstrom's sale last week, hopefully they will fit. Still working on filling some wardrobe holes after my major closet purge over the last few months. Now that my major replacement shopping is done, I think it will be easier to SYB/SYC.

I amazingly am still using birthday cash, but have spent up June's budget. I have picked up mostly accessories, which I find really hard to do so I'm happy with that. On the way is a belt, with a bid on right now for a second belt. I also bought my second ever decorative scarf. Also coming is a bra that I hope is my size, and the hopefully perfect loose boyfriend tee lol. I already mentioned the white watch from a few weeks ago. So, all told I have about $15 of b-day cash left which should cover a sun hat if I can find the right one. ( I have a reversible bucket hat but don't care for how low the brim is.)
So I essentially still got to spend throughout May thanks to gifts! June will be my real test of SYC now that the budget is gone. I did learn my little lesson about quality over quantity along the way so that was worthwhile, otherwise, this month did not really represent much of a SYB challenge. On to June!
