Kim- just a new house, not out of the area. I've already started packing, but I need to get some more supplies today.
I have a fab system for packing if anyone needs it- or find it at Flylady.
I think the key to SYC success doesn't have anything to do with your wardrobe, but rather knowing what shopping is for you and finding other ways to get that. For some people shopping is emotional, for some it's recreational, for some it's impulse buys, etc.
Mo we could totally do a daily check in- I may need it!

MJP, I wonder what the key is to being successful at SYC, too. Maybe it's a mix of being content with what you have and getting creative with it as well. I'm sure having a working, cohesive wardrobe to start with helps a bunch.

I tried SYC a while ago but it didn't work for me at all back then. At the time, I was in the midst of a complete wardrobe overhaul. I've had to spend a lot of money to get all new clothes, shoes and accessories. I got some fall and winter pieces from NAS in the last week. I feel calm and prepared going into fall and winter. I'm going to try again now. I am going to need the support! I've been on a big time shopping binge for the last 6 months.

What is the key to doing SYC successfully? It seems like the most fun closets either contain a large number of clothing items (so the outfits themselves are not repeats) or a lot of accessories (belts, scarves, necklaces, tights, etc) to change the tone or silhouette of an outfit. (Or some balance between the two?) Layering pieces help, too, although I'm not sure I'm good at figuring out what makes a good layering piece.

I absolutely adore your style, Khris, so I'm hoping we'll be treated to some fab remixes during this time!

Khris, I will need the support! I also feel lucky that I already had the bra ordered and the belt that had disappeared then reappeared for me to snatch up the last one. I am also really glad I returned the ill fitting dress. Now I can concentrate on getting the dresses I have into rotation. These purchases were out of August's budget as my last summer needs. I was already planning on waiting to use the remaining $500 fall/winter money when that season rolled around.
Without being too cagey, our circumstances might change next month which falls right in line with my shopping break anyway. What happens by fall will determine whether I can resume SYB or have to stay with SYC. I feel set for the cold season and really my list is all wants.
How am I coping? I tried to go for a run this morning, but the heat and humidity put a lid on that real quick! Had to walk home the last part and get my head in a cool shower. Ugh. I really don't know how I'm going to deal honestly. I might need a *daily* thread lol! We can do this

I'm not officially Syc, but I feel like I have been on a shopping hiatus. I even drempt about my closet last night, that it was super organized and significantly pared down. I admire your commitment and hope you look at this as a fun challenge and an opportunity to be creative. I must have missed your thread about moving, I hope it is a welcome adventure.

Since there are several people trying to Shop Your Closet (aka not buy clothing items), I wondered if we want to do a weekly support thread? When I found out that our moving date got pushed way up, I was happy that I had picked up a pair of skinny cargo pants off the clearance rack at Target and ordered the drapey shrug from AT. I also was fortunate enough to have two YLFers send me things, so I have some new things to look forward to wearing.
What are you doing to help you get through your SYC and what are your terms? I am going whole hog- no purchases of anything except groceries until after we move. I'm unsubscribing all of the retail emails that I get to help me out, and I am going to stay out of the shops. My biggest issue is that shopping is a stress release for me, so I need to find new things to do since this will be a stressful time.
