Good point! For me, I think I'll have a clearer idea of what I really need. I often go in with a vague idea (brown top layer) but not, cropped, chunky, etc. I have the advantage of just learning new tricks and proportion rules, and such, at the same time that I'm SYC so it's almost like being in school Now I know, for instance, that I need several longer length tops to go with my pants and jeans. I think I'll have a focused shopping experience and not just go crazy like a kid in a candy store.

I like Kristen's post-SYC video blog idea (sort of letting a child eat all the cake and frosting they want on their birthday).

But I have to wonder -- even if there is a time of over indulgent shopping post-SYC, won't there probably be accompanying conscience issues and maybe returning. . . after all SYC brings a different awareness to our purchasing?

Hee at you both! Laura, I am keeping you on the straight and narrow only because my own shopping expeditions are single-handedly keeping our local economy afloat! It's residual guilt. Plus, the articles are going to be so much better (hey, where are your blog posts lately?) if you stay on the path.

And most of all, because I think we need to arrange a nice long shopping trip when you are done; I think I should bring my camera with to record it, and you can make another article about it. "What happens when a shopping ban is over" -- I mean, really, where do you go first? What do you want to buy after all this time? Is it the buying or the shopping/social time that you revel in? I think it would be a great piece!

Awesome, Mo.

It's a fine line between finding things you can already use in your closet and buying something new every once in a while as a little pick-me-up. That's the line I am hoping to walk come Jan. 1! I do miss a little pick-me-up. If we were doing this like the Great American Apparel dieters who get to buy footwear and accessories during their year, I think it might be a lot easier, because you could get that little fun boost from something new.

Taylor, if my role in our future shopping expedition is to be the voice of reason, then we are in big trouble. Ask Kristen!

Just had an example of how this is helping me. I am lusting after some black matchstick cords. But I asked myself what exactly do I want to wear them with? The answer - a sweaterdress and my sharkbite tank. My new (and only true) skinnies are an olivey gray and so the grays in the tank and sweaterdress clash with the pant color. Well, all I had to do was start looking at the other clothes I've had for a while and I found some straightleg jeans, and my white straight jeans are close enough to skinnies to work. Sure, the cords would look great and be fun but I don't *need* them to make these pieces work! I think when I get something new my instinct is to try to pair it up with another newer piece. By doing SYC I instead had to change gears and look at older, but perfectly fine, options. Just thought I'd share

Just chiming in again to say thanks to the SYC-ers. I have been watching from the sidelines and while I am still shopping I have completely stopped purchasing items out of my current season. There's bound to be something new I will want instead when the season rolls back around. This was a real eye opener for me.

Congrats everyone for making it this far!
As you know I fell off the wagon about two weeks ago with a major purchase of shoes. After that I decided to jump back o the wagon BUT with the change that I can buy something as long as I use Angie's one in-one out closet control. So far so good! I visited my sis in NY and bought almost nothing--almost.I did buy some underwear, tights and two blouses.Came home and immediately removed two old blouses from my closet. Today I bought some much-needed sleepwear. So I am not in the grip of the ban like weeks 1-9 but I have found that I am much more controlled in my spending and am enjoying having a more manageable closet.I still think there are a few not-well-used items in there!
hang in there ladies, Thanksgiving will be the next hurdle to clear!

Well...I fell off the wagon and hit my head ! Because at the YLF meet-up I bought something that was purely frivolous and not needed. But it is FAB and you will see a post. During brunch I said to the ladies that I was going to fall off and Medusa said without hesitation, " Do you have a planned time for it ? " About two hours later it turned out.

So now I am utterly tempted to get a pair of booties, which I don't have, and a pair of ankle boots in black which I don't have and was waiting for January. But I really am short on long sleeve Tshirts !!!!! I also need Spanx and a flesh colored cami - which really came to light as I tried on clothes with the Fab Girls !

What to do, what to do ? Maybe I could take a week off and then jump back on ?

I am taking abour 6 pieces to the tailor this week so that they fit better and I get more wear out of them ( one will probably be for holiday wear ).

I made it to within 2 days of week 13 ! OYYYYYY !

I went to the new Rack in Tampa yesterday and left empty handed. It helped that I didn't spy any to die for items, but I could have gotten swayed by the shoe section. I window shopped briefly and was good to go. Yay. (and the men's section was so terrible my BF took all of 30 seconds to be done with his window shopping.) I am only in 2 weeks now so I'm way behind all of you ladies. But just yesterday I donned a dress I've had several years but only worn twice. It's good to get reacquainted with your clothing!

Joy, I hope you get to have fun with oxfords. Why not? I love that you don't shop off-season anymore! I don't either. It's too hard to know if I'll still like it by next summer.

Queenie, how nice of you to take care of the men in your life. I bet your son looks very dapper in his new suit!

I had the advantage of my new birthday items still being new. My oxfords arrived on Wednesday and I spared no time breaking them in. I also took 2 of my birthday scarves out for their maiden voyages.
I ended up returning one scarf, both cardigans to express, and I think I'm going to return the moto jacket... it just won't work with dresses.
I had fun taking my son shopping for his first suit. The nice thing was, I wasn't tempted to leave him in the men's department to fend for himself while I took a quick peak at bags or jewelry. Surprisingly, at Kohl's, a wonderfully helpful salesgirl helped us out and we got him fitted in a great suit.
Then my husband trailed along with me the next day when I needed to go exchange his shirt for a different size, and we found a fab jacket for my husband. I think I'm often a bit self-centered when it comes to shopping. It was nice to focus on the men in my life for a change.
So, that was my shopping fix for the week!

Laura, I hope we get a look at you in your wig and outfit!
Thinking of the "life's too short" and wanting to get in on bootie and oxford fun as early as possible this season, I ordered some to try. I may or may not keep them but these items are not in my closet currently. I've been successful at avoiding any purchase lately if I've got something I can use instead and must have saved a bundle not buying off season at sales. This is something I've done for years but no longer am interested in what I can't wear now.

Hoping this week will not be unlucky! :)

I successfully navigated my final round of interviews wearing my new Classiques blouse and was glad I hadn't gone to the trouble of buying an entire new suit, as it would have been totally unnecessary.

I did purchase a hideous orange wig this week for a black-and-orange party we're attending on Friday. I know, I know, you're all envious!

http://www.amazon.com/Orange-C.....038;sr=8-3

My girlfriend and I are going to be twins. Little black dresses, tall black boots (I don't have any tall, heeled black boots and will borrow from her - another wardrobe gap found), and the aforementioned hideous orange wigs. We're still working on our husbands' attire, but we're starting with huge afros :)

How's everyone else doing?
