I'm still on the search for, but haven't bought, several things. Black skinny jeans or cords and a red bag being on the top of the list. I may last through Christmas but if the perfect item comes along I will not say no! I have noticed my tendency to want to just get *something* to fill the hole rather than waiting for, or paying the higher price for, the perfect item. It's like I get this tunnel vision and hunt, hunt, hunt until I've captured a piece that will fit the puzzle. Maybe taking this step back will help me choose better.

I am all over the place. Last week I bought the Theory tunic at the YLF meet up. That was totally gratuitous. Since then, I bought two long Yummy Tummy camisoles to layer under a couple of jersey Ts that I love but haven't been wearing this year because of jumbo muffin top. I also bought a pair of light colored skinny jeans ( gratuitous ) and a pair of Aquatalia booties for rain and slush and snow. I deemed these things that I would really use and would expand my wardrobe instead of just "adding" to it. I also bought three long sleeved Ts that are going back. They really are extras. I can easily get by without them.

I came close to buying a pair of brown boots and a coat......but these really are just extras that I like but don't fill any holes. I used the money that I have been saving for a leather coat for my stuff, because I am just not sure that I would wear one.

I may get a wool coat in Jan....but I think that I am done for the season.

That is a long way of saying " I'm out for two weeks, but I may come back in.." I am definitely focused.

Oh, I forgot about a possible purchase...the $3 black leather pencil skirt at the thrift store. I was dropping off donations again and saw that it was still there. I'd seen it just before Angie's blog post on wearing leather skirts and left it.
It will probably be redonated, but for $3 it home to play with inspired by Angie.

Hmm, I fell totally off the wagon and apparently into an online mall...I did not buy many things but those I bought cost more than I would normally spend. I make myself feel un-guilty by pointing out that the items I bought are quite different than any others in my closet(not closet holes being filled but rather closet-enhancers--like that term?).Plus I have stuck with the one-in one-out closet control.

NOW however it is getting tough. The last thing I bought was a pair of light colored water proof boots(on their way to the house, not sure if I will keep, they need to be perfect), and I am already fighting with what to toss from the closet...So from here on out SYC may not be the big thing that keeps me in line.It will be the need to toss something from a closet that currently I really like just about everything in it! Genius technique Angie I am also trying to maintain some form of control until after Christmas sales though. Let's see how this goes...
Congrats on making your way through the minefield last week Laura! I got to that thread late and though, oh my, I know that inside-battle-feeling! And congrats to all the ladies holding fast, and to those maneuvering in their own way

It's good to know I wasn't the only one! If we had started Aug. 1 and ended today I bet we all would have hung on to the bitter end.

After doing my redecorating project (it's not done but the final phase must wait for further funds), I know what you mean about time on your hands. Especially when you work at home or are a SAHM, shopping is a way to get out of the house. I've gotten back into my novel, which is great and was one of my main goals. However, it doesn't burn as many calories as running around the mall!

We need to start a hobby thread.

QM - I agree - no guilt! It sounds like you've stepped back long enough to take good stock of what you have, and you're more clearly able to see what you can really use.

My SYC isn't as strict as some (I got a late start and gave myself grace for replacing things I couldn't forsee - but, hey, it's voluntary, right?)

Yes, the extra free time is a bit disconcerting. . . I've just gotten husband healing nicely and youngest son settled back in school so I'm finding that even with my own working again, I'm also twiddling my thumbs a bit.

I'm still avoiding major housework/cleaning, major projects (DH needs to be recovered more to share the fun), and have lost interest in 'ancient' pre-children hobbies . . . so shopping was a fun way to fill a changing life void. Now I know I need to address it :-\

I may have to start a thread asking for favorite hobby ideas. . . !!!!

okay, so it went like this...

I have a gift card for NY&Co. I had bought a black moto jacket but every time I tried to wear it I felt that it was too much for me so returned it earlier in the week. While I was returning I looked at a couple of cardi's... as the weather is cooling down I do feel the need for more than the 2 cardi's currently hanging in my closet.
Then someone posted about a spend $100, get $50 off coupon on Friday. I had a free day and felt like getting myself out of the house so I went back to NY&C to have a second look at the cardi's and browse the accessories. I decided a few accessories might add some spice to my wardrobe. I was in a completely lucid state... so yes, you can call my actions premeditated and deliberate.

So.... I ended up coming home with 3 necklaces, earrings, bracelet, a new bag, 2 tops, a vest, and a cardigan from Loft... oh, and a Rubio's taco that came home in my tummy ;-)

I'll post a keep or return thread later... I don't trust the evil dressing rooms at NY&Co.. they use skinny mirrors and lighting that would make Frankenstein look like a hottie.

I don't feel guilty. I enjoyed my day, only spent $40 of my own money and added some fun accessories that should help to spice things up.

I stumbled a little with some basic black leggings. But honestly it did feel like buying a pair of socks! I'm still determined to stay the course. I go home to my winter closet in a week and a half. I left mostly things that I have no need for in FL but there are a handful of things I"m eager to bring back and work into what's left of the closet I'm paring down out here.
What I'm finding interesting is the time I have on my hands not shopping. It's been one of the ways I amuse myself while out here. See, I know we are not staying for the long term, so I don't really have new friends because I'm going right back to CA in maybe a year, maybe two. So shopping and running are two fave pasttimes to while away the days. It's leaving more free time - I think I'll need to find a hobby lol!

Dramatic and frustrating for me.
DH has been after me to p-l-e-a-s-e buy myself a birthday gift from him (from August). Birthdays are a time we indulge ourselves without guilt in something we want. His choice is always something techie that I couldn't begin to pick out for him. Mine is usually something I can wear. I told him I'd find myself birthday boots. Several pairs have been tried and rejected due to great gaping calf areas on my 12" calves. So far no boots. That failing I tried to find oxfords instead and no luck so far but YLF members have given me some leads on another thread.
Returning some footwear to Nordstroms, the SA suggested I come back when the sale starts this week, so I'll do that.
Otherwise, I've been greatly tempted and will be even more tempted during the sale. But I'm amazed that with SYC how discerning I've become as to what I really need and that I'm now not willing to settle if something is close but isn't quite right. This is a very good thing. Shopping for others for Christmas gifts will help fill the need to shop but also be full of temptations. How is everyone else doing?

Wow. Last week certainly was dramatic. I mentally bought and returned an MK sheath about 15 times over. Exhausting! :)

How about you all? Drama or no drama this past week? How are you feeling as we start November?
