I am still being mindful about purchases, but I have bought a few things, and I have just made plans with a few girlfriends to spend the day shopping at a fab mall (about 60+ minutes away) once the semester is over. I have lived here for over six years, and this will be the first time I've had friends to go shopping with, so I just couldn't say no. Not nearly as much as I'd imagined lol. Also, much of it was still too warm/heavy to make sense to bring back to FL. And a few of the tops were indeed too short or outdated or . . . </p> <p>So I will be playing around with 4 or 5 button downs, a denim sheath dress, and a denim skirt that is NOT a mini - hoorah! I grabbed some brown boots that I thought would be great but now I'm wondering on the style of the heels and toes whether they are not quite right anymore. Oh, and I scooped up 2 more of my blazers - deep teal velvet and a merlot corduroy. Beyond those, I got my black deep v tee to layer under, a zip 3/4 cardi, my green mules and some fun Keds. </p> <p>Now if it would go below 80 again, I could get some mileage out of my haul. Let's hope this gets me through to Christmas. [fingers crossed]</p> <p>Ah, yes, last but not least, my J Brand black skinnies were waiting in the mail when I returned. I think I'm going to love them but it's too warm yet to take them out for a spin. I continue to applaud everyone for their SYC dedication. </p> <p>One insight I noticed is: when I don't like how I look in an outfit I typically would run out and purchase a new outfit that made me "feel better." Now I try to rework the outfit when I get home, until I either come up with a combination I do like (85% of the time) or realize one iitem in the outfit just isn't working for me and it goes into the donate pile (15%) of the time. I'm surprised how often I've stopped myself from blindly shopping simply by reworking an outfit at home.</p> <p>Another factor that has helped me: purging my blazers. The rest of my closet is still stuffed but at least selecting a blazer is a lot easier and less stressful. However this afternoon I found that I have a challenge looming.<br /> I'm to have some surgery this Wednesday. The nurse who called me today told me I'll need to bring something elastic and loose waisted as I'll be very sore for awhile in that area and won't want anything binding. Loose!? Elastic waist!? I no longer own such things. I even work out in my jeans or clams. A quick trip to Target may be required, but nothing I'm happy about having to buy. I'm wondering if leggings would feel too tight. Now though, I'm fairly confident I'll be right.</p> <p>SYC has given me so much insight into my wardrobe and the real me - by not constantly adding new bits and pieces, I'm able to stop, and work out what it is that I like/don't like and why, rather than just knowing something was wrong so going and buying something else!</p> <p>Does anyone else thing they've almost had a life-changing realisation when it comes to clothes/shopping?</p> <p>Laura has your second article been published yet?
