I never committed to SYC, but if it helps I have bought absolutely nothing for two months (encouraging all you ladies to keep going!). Since September of 2009 I have bought 2 pair of running shoes, a pair of clogs, one sweatshirt, two pair of jeans to replace two with behind holes, and received a coat as a gift. I just realized that was a year and 6 months. Including the gift that was less than 450 dollars worth of clothing with the most expensive piece being the running shoes (100 bucks, I am addicted to expensive trail shoes) and the least being a pair of jeans I got on sale for 15 dollars. It figures out to be about 25 bucks a month spent on clothing, way less if you don't count the running shoes. Oh, I also got a pair of nice slippers as a gift, but I don't think those count, nor should yardwork sweatshirt that was a hand-me-down from my grandma (yes, I admit, I have worn it in public, no, I swear it isn't pink with crochet appliques).

Right now I am getting pretty close to the "running around naked stage". That actually may be a good thing, since I'm switching at least temporarily from being a full-time student to working this summer. Actually, I could probably go another 6 months to a year if I was allowed to wear only jeans, shorts, ts, my running shoes and flip flops. However, I may have to change my profession to beach bum or back to construction worker to do that, and I am just not willing!

I am still alive and well after SYCing for 2 entire months! LOL! I have not cracked even once and am still feeling determined and motivated to go at least until March 31st. I have ample clothes, shoes and accessories for the rest of this winter and heading into spring. As the weather warms up however, I may feel more tempted about buying something "springy" - that will be the true test for me, as I don't have near as many warm-weather clothes as I do cold-weather clothes - (which is weird because I live in a warm-weather climate!)

I'm still hanging in there. One more month to go. Cracked twice, (returned once, so does that count?? LOL) but I have been amazed at how little I've spent over the last two months. I think it's a grand total of $75.00 and $55.00 of that is on a pair of boots that I'm still waiting to arrive. I many return them if they don't fit, in which case I'll have spent $20.00 on clothes in 2 months!! Unheard of! LOL

I've been keeping a running list of things I think I'd like to buy when this is over and I can see it's really not a lot. I want a striped top, couple of summer chiffon type tops, a couple of summer dresses, one pair of shoes, and a pair of "cigarette" pants. I think I'll be set for the summer then. If that's the case I'll be spending very little to get me through the summer too, and so SYC is proving to be very good for my budget in more ways than one!

It's been an interesting and eye-opening experiment, and I've come to realize quite a few things about myself. That, I think, is invaluable!

I've been "almost" SYCing. In January I cracked twice, once for a much wanted blazer and a second time for AT items after reading about Angie's suggestion to check them out this season. February went the same way, two times. Once for some Gap jeans since my others are finally getting too big and once for two items in the YLF store I saw in Nordstrom with colors I preferred versus the one's online. Compared to previous months, this has been a big decrease in shopping. I've had more time to cook, clean and exercise and that has been great. I've also started a slow closet purge and am starting to realize what is actually in my closet. So despite my breaking the shopping ban, I'm still learning about what I actually own, and doing far less impulsive purchasing.

I'm unwilling still SYC-ing, mostly because I haven't had any time to shop and I can't quite seem to find anything that strikes my fancy. I think I'm going to resort to buying shoes soon, even though I need some shirts/dresses/skirts and don't actually need any shoes.

I am having the issue of weight loss, too. I'm shopping my budget (but like Mo that has turned into SYC anyway). I bought new bras and they are already too big, so I am trying to find more on ebay. I'm not going to buy anything new for winter since it's almost over, but things are getting too big for me. I'm afraid to buy any new summer dresses right now because I may be down another size before warm weather hits. I'd really like to find some woven cotton tops and the next size down in David Kahn's on ebay, but for now I'm holding steady.

Mary, I think SYC while you are losing weight is too hard - how could you resist buying at least a few things in your new size?

I have failed! I managed to SYC for January, but in February a lot of my pants and even shoes became too big, and in I needed a new rain coat, and one thing led to another and... I have failed! LOL

But I am nicely set for spring so I don't really have any regrets. And I'm going to try to SYC in March to make up for my profligate ways in February.

My SYB has turned into SYC since buying the cognac boots last week (unless I return them! ;). I am basically housebound so I don't foresee any trouble with making do with my closet for the coming month. I did notice this morning that since turning my hangers around a few months back I wore nearly every tank and short sleeve (even during winter) but have many long sleeves still untouched. I sometimes worry I have too much concentration of strappy tanks and drapey tee's but this reinforced that I really do wear them most. I am curious to see how the dresses fare in the coming months. I used to 'save' them for occasions but am trying to get out of that mindset.

EDIT: I did find that what I alotted for my budget only covered half of what I actually spent, between xmas money and using up March's budget in Feb. I included everything from bras to running shoes, though.

I am actively hunting for a pair of basic black boots, but if I don't find exactly what I want, I can survive till fall. I have shopping in Hawai'i in May to keep me focused - I keep reminding myself I'll be able to check out ATL and all those other stores I never get to browse IRL!
