I do think they can be easier for fit for the extremes of long or short torso. Bikinis are also very pretty and I bet look great on you. I have the opposite problem with one piece swimsuits, they are usually too short on me and I have to go up couple of sizes to get enough length, but then there is usually too much fabric around midsection which I hate, especially when wet. I have a few, some of which I have had for many years, but my old favorites are still in good shape. I tend to get simple solid color coverups or ones that coordinate with my suits’ color schemes. I have two pareos — one I got in Mexico that’s black and white print, and one that must be 20 years old but rarely worn — it’s an ombré turquoise-blue and it’s gorgeous but quite sheer so it’s sort of clashed with some of my suits. However, I think it will see new life with the blue bikini! I particularly like pareos because of the versatility — I like them twisted at the neck and tied in back, dress-style. </p> <p>I also have a couple of other styles in solid black and solid white. The last few years I have leaned heavily on my utilitarian lap-swimming suits. I have three, all by TYR (Finds below). But I should probably take a good look at those too, since they’re all quite a few years old. </p> <p>I hadn’t even worn my other suits for the last three years through the pandemic because we weren’t gathering with other people or doing any kind of resort vacations, so I really neglected the swim capsule during that time. </p> <p>And I have to be honest — It helps that I’m now seeing some positive results from months of Pilates classes and some gentle adjustment of my eating habits — it’s weird how it feels like nothing is changing for months on end, and then all of a sudden I realize my clothes are starting to fit better. The bikini was such a pleasant surprise. I think the sizing was key — I was skeptical of the size ranges they listed beyond a DD cup, but I got the smallest band size version and it fits great. If I continue to lose a little more weight, I may need to have the band taken in a little bit, but that’s not hard.</p> <p>We leave for our mini vacation two weeks from today, and that really snuck up on me, so I’m glad I didn’t delay my search longer. Some notes:</p> <p>- the JCrew suit that Kyle recommended is really pretty but was a dud on me — someone with a longer torso will love it though! I seriously had like 5 extra inches of fabric at the top and in the butt, it was not a good look. </p> <p>- A teal Gottex smashed my boobs down in a most unflattering way. LOL</p> <p>- a one-shoulder Miraclesuit style in a multicolored reptile print was a near-miss — hubs and I like the unusual print and the concept, but there was a bit too much fabric in the top part that goes over the shoulder — it looked too top-heavy. </p> <p>- Scuba suit (pic one) from Miraclesuit was a wild card order but won rave reviews from my husband. It’s true scuba fabric so not easy to get into and out of, and I’m pretty limber! But it looks cool in a sporty-sexy way, and I tried it on with my sarong pants over it and hubs said I NEED to keep it for resort vacations, so who am I to argue. And it fits beautifully and has the right amount of coverage. I had also ordered it in the print in 4-5 and may keep both, since my two old bikinis are ready to go and this way I have a complete replacement — on vacation I like to alternate so I’m not wearing the same one everyday. Bonus, the same style means consistent tan lines. I’m really pleasantly surprised at how much I like this style — so much so that I immediately put both of my old bikinis in the donate bag.</p> <p>Finally, the one-shoulder Miraclesuit in pic 6 is a contender for a new one-piece. It’s our favorite so far, but there are more coming. My only quibble with it is that it’s very slim-fitting, which of course is part of the Miraclesuit thing — that fabric really sucks you in! But it is not easy to get into — it takes a few minutes to put it on and adjust it, and once it’s on, it is quite snug. </p>
