Thanks Angie dear. I agree with you that fluid and drapy are the way to go. Which is why I liked pic 1 best of the second lot (but not the scratchiness)

I can't stay long here (last day of current job, lots to do) but just wanted to say that, given I have 2 of the smaller size, and very limited chance of getting a bigger size ( I could order it, but am reluctant to get a shipping charge again) how much of a deal breaker is the small size?

Anne, take the middle road with a fluid fit instead of an oversized one. Make sure you partially tuck or faux tuck. Make sure the sleeves are structured. You are going to be fine. Promise. xo

Anne, I too like the sized-up version of the polka-dot sweater. Regarding the oversized jumpers, I know what you mean...we all have figure-flattering priorities that make us feel like "us" and make us feel good. I saw in the post you linked to that you feel good about your outfit when your waist is defined. I am like that too (I have a small bust also). I don't like anything that is too androgynous, and obscuring the waistline for me makes me feel too "male." I hope you have luck at Sussan.

Thanks so much for all of you for chiming in, some of you several times! And I appreciate your input Angie

You are right that my eye hasn't adjusted. There is no way I think it looks smashing!! When I look at the second batch of pics (possible exception of the first one) I think of the sort of things I'd wear as a uni student while pulling an allnighter, the sort of outfits my friends who have NO interest in fashion and much as I love them, are pretty frumpy, wear.
This look certainly hasn't caught on in work wear in the professional setting I'm currently in - still lots of tailored looks there, so I am just not seeing it around me.

And I find boxiness hard. Long drapy layers I am much better with, but something in my style education (Not sure of the source - Leah Feldman perhaps?) sets off alarm bells at any item that looks as wide as it is long.

I don't think I'm alone in ylf here - As she has said above,Claire hasn't embraced this look either, and I am pretty sure I haven't seen much of it on Lyn*. And neither has E, with whom I share lots of body type similarities, though she is slighter. And in this recent thread Fruitful, who shares my small bustedness, was advised to go body con!http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....eight-loss

Lyn - I forgot to say yesterday that I do take your point about the tunic look not being so great for short legs. But I find it hard to balance leg revealing and feeling too boxy on top.

Rachy - I like the first one best too. But the silver threads were irritating. And I like the colour of 3 too.

Plan of action. Lunch today - hit Sussan, and try to see if this top is available another size up.

Oh and I seem to have dropped nearly a kilo overnight and am back in normal (though high) range. I think yesterday was a one nighter caused by the unfortunate discovery On Sun night that gluten free bread, which I dislike heartily, is quite bearable when used as a pizza base!

I like the sized up black polka dot a whole lot. Think it's great with the pencil and layered. I almost feel you need this sweater. I think it's "easy."

Of the second set of sweaters - I like the pattern of #1, the fit of #2, and colour of #3. The only one I'd buy for you is #1 though.

Anne, that sounds like a tough place to be in. I'm just commiserating here--I didn't fall in love with the new crop of jumpers last F/W either so I pretty much just sat out the trends. It takes a while for my eye to get adjusted to new things and I'd rather wait until I really love something before jumping in anyway. It's also really hard to shop when the "shopping anointing" isn't on you, lol! Nothing like the pressure of the job change to make you feel like it's now or never. Your body looks great, and your hair is probably just getting into it's F/W rhythm (do you get bad static from trying on pullovers like I do?) and a trim will whip it into shape no doubt. Good luck with your sweater hunt and your new job!

I was going to say that the first jumper - although adorable, Anne - is too small. I prefer the size up much more. Even two sizes up maybe.

LOVING the second lot of jumpers even more - but they must be welted or partially tucked for structure though - which you did for the first three photos.

Anne, you love body con and don't feel that waist surrender or any amount of bagginess is flattering. So I get that the shift in fashion is hard for you at the moment. Hang in there. Trust me. You look smashing in those baggy jumpers. xo

I'm with ceit! The dotted sweater, sized up is extremely flattering on you. Your sense of your body is probably a bit challenged right now, if you feel heavier or in need of a haircut. The changes you see and feel with weight are extremely subtle, and I don't think you're in need of what I call "camo" (for camouflage) dressing. Still, you need to feel happy in it. Confidence is a huge part of style and, with a limited budget and wardrobe size, it's even more important.

I'm in sore need of a haircut, too! Hope we can both find time for this really soon (I have a wedding to attend this weekend, so I'd better get hopping).

Lyn, I'll check out Sussan. Usually they are too pricey for my budget, but since it is sale season i might be able to afford something.
And yes, the ones I tried on today seemed too big, and frankly frumpy for the most part!
My manager was saying today that she hasn't bought any jumpers this season either (and she is a much more decisive and shoppingy person than I) and I think it shows how hard this season is.
Khards - I hear you. I think the problem is that I haven't seen anything else I'm even close to liking, I know I have underbuying, perfectionistic tendencies AND I find shopping extremely exhausting and at the moment I am finding everyday life even without shopping pretty tiring. And next week I start a new job where I can't just nip into the city centre to the shops in my lunch break. (so just this week left to do that!)

The latest ones look almost TOO roomy in the pics Anne :(
I can understand your frustration here!
The original one sized-up is my fav so far, and this shorter style is IMO more flattering than the longer tunic-style that was so popular in recent years, as it shows-off and lengthens the leg-line.
This year I am wearing a slightly oversized top- of- thigh length at front and just covering the rear- H/L jumper for layering from Sussan- have you looked there at all?

Thanks Kiwigirl and Lyn. (and all those who chimed in earlier too) The next size up isn't as tight across the bus and the sleeves are not as tight. It is just over an inch longer, which might not be enough to be really adequate coverage for all my jeans.

Gosh, I don't know!!! Maybe it isn't my season for jumpers. The styles really don't seem very flattering - I am questioning why I would want to wear something with a wide loose band right over the waist! Surely those lines are broadening. I really preferred the slim line tunic sweaters I was wearing 2 or 3 years ago.

I kind of feel like nothing looks good at the moment, but that is partly a function of weighing more than I normally do, and even more so, or being really unhappy with my hair. I keep thinking that it looks nice worn out, in the morning, only to get to work and see that it doesn't any more. And today I didn't even have a hair lacky available to tie it up. No more down dos until I get a haircut!

I made myself try on some more sweaters at the shop. Pics in a minute

I don't think the top makes you look pregnant, but it seems to me that it will be annoying to have to layer it every time you want to wear it with low-rise bottoms. It is definitely cute, but I guess you will have to decide whether the lack of versatility will be a problem. Also, since it is quite short, perhaps even wearing it with higher-rise bottoms will cause you to be pulling it down throughout the day. Sometimes tops can ride up with sitting and standing and general moving around.

I like the sweater on you! It looks sophisticated with the skirt and fun and fresh layered over the button-down. But I do agree that it may not be the most versatile thing ever if you have to worry about layering it just so every time you wear it with a lower-waisted bottom.

Anne, I like it with the pencil skirt (amazing on your cute little bod), but if you need a versatile sweater/jumper that will also go with your jeans, you might want to keep looking.

I like this top on you, don't think it makes you look pregnant, and looks good without the shirt, with the shirt, and with the skirt. But I agree with everyone above that says if you aren't sure, it's probably not for you. I have 2 polka dot sweaters (after getting rid of half my sweaters) so I'm probably biased when it comes to polka dot anything.
