I like the outfit. I think I would have kept the scarf and ditched the leg-warmers for going out. This outfit would look good with tall boots also, I think.

I like how the leg warmers bookend your scarf. I'm glad that you put on snow boots to go out.

Thanks for commenting! The picture actually looks busier than the outfit seemed in real life! Still, I shed the scarf and the leg warmers before I went into the city for errands, and was glad I had: I ran into several of my patients in town... One of my stops was to try on the corduroys. Too low-rise for me, sadly. I don't need any more trousers that will only go with the longest of my tops.

I think around the house is fine, but I would feel like there was too much going on with both the leg warmers and scarf. Like Dee said, I'd also switch out the Birks for something a bit warmer.

I think your outfit looks cozy for snow and fine to wear in public, although I might switch out the Birks for boots or something's that would keep my toes warm even around the house. I am a big fan of your of your sweater dress too!

Impromptu layering -- how did I do?

Woke up to our first real snow (it arrived yesterday), on a non work day of casual errands, and immediately wanted to get into something warm and cozy (not jeans). In fact, what I wanted was the corduroy pants -- black with big grey dots! -- that I saw at Joe Fresh recently and talked myself out of. (Not dressy enough for work, I own more jeans than I can wear in my few free Saturdays, corduroy gets baggy too quickly... Duh, that's because it's so comfy it gets worn all the time!) I think it's what some Fabbers have mentioned recently, how hard it is to remember our actual seasonal needs and preferences before we get there. Especially winter, I'm good at denial.

So, that left me staring into my closet, squinching my cold toes. OK, leggings have the right feel. Tunic over leggings was my MOTG uniform in the 90s, now I mostly wear them for skiing. So, what top is long enough? Grey sweater dress, check. Black underlayer T, to keep the grey from my face. Now, my middle is too lumpy; how about my new scarf, that's too big for workdays? Now, it needs bookending, and my toes are still cold... How about the Fair Isle legwarmers/boot toppers (made from a thrifted sweater in a previous attempt to work this sweater dress). I had to move the buckle on my not-Birks, but now I'm as cozy as I wanted.

I added my grey pea-jacket and snow boots to go rescue the last raspberries from a snow-covered shrub, and will do the same for the grocery run.

Sorry for the lengthy meander through my thought process. Maybe this is a familiar scenario to some. For me, I almost always decide what I'm going to wear the night before, at the latest. Otherwise, I just stay under the covers till inspiration hits, a dangerous temptation.

Can anyone else relate? Could I wear this outfit in public? And most important, should I go back for those corduroys?
