QM, I like that (especially the color!) but it looks a bit short for me.

Diana, I agree that A-line would work best. And that's a great idea to take a slip! I will definitely do that in the future.

I'd try something A-line. I'd also try something *without* a defined waist - I think I am shaped somewhat similarly to you (although I am more of a pear) and for my short waist, I've often found that a dress without a defined waist + my own belt is a lot more flattering because I can put the waist where I want it. There's likely to be more chest room in that case too.

Oh, and for sweater dresses, definitely try them on with a slip underneath - it really changes the way the knit clings to your bottom and thighs and makes it skim much more nicely.

I missed this reply, so apologies for not responding sooner! Thanks for the tips.

Those are some great suggestions, DanaLynn -- I love the Lauren one but sadly it's only available in plus sizes. I fear wool would not be great for me, and I'm not sure about the patterned band around the bustline on the first one either, but if there's one thing I've learned about clothing, it's that you truly need to try things on because sometimes they surprise you.

I did try on several more sweater dresses last week while out shopping, and still no winners. It seems to be very hard to find one that flatters both my top and bottom halves! When I found one that skimmed nicely across my lower half, the upper portion turned my torso into a giant uniboob! Not a good look.

Hey- I feel ya!

I am hippy and I have a pretty generous booty. We call it the Butler Butt. Butler is my Mother's maiden name. She has 7 sisters and all of our butt's look the same Me and my sister were so fortunate to inherit the legacy.

Dillards and Macy's have nice selections of sweater dresses right now and they all seem to be on sale! My favorite dress from this year is already sold out :(

Anyways. These are really varying style. This one is a little shorter but would be perfect with legging and boots. The bottom should float over the hips nicely.
Gianni Bini "Drew" Sweater Dress

This is a turtleneck option. It has a nice fitted top and fuller skirt.
MSSPSweater Dress

This one would be great with pump and is more business like, but could be dressed up with pretty scarves and belts. I like this silhouette a lot.
Lauren by Ralph Lauren Woman "Scylestina" Wool Sweater Dress

I like this one a lot- but it is wool and I know some people just can't do wool.
Antonio Melani "Chloe" Sweater Dress

I have this one in plus size- it's a nice shape and for $22 it's a nice way to try a new style without a big financial commitment. I wear mine with skinnys or leggings and boots. Style&co. Dress, Marilyn Short Sleeve Marled Sweater

Good luck!!

Hi jjjjj and welcome I'm a pear with generous hips and thighs and I would be looking for a sweater dress which fell down straight from the widest part of my hips with no clinging to the thighs x

First of all, hello! I've only started visiting here in the last few days and have been mostly lurking and enjoying the discussions.

I've been trying to find a sweater dress that works on me, but to no avail. I'm 5'7" and usually wear a size 10 these days. I'm somewhat short-waisted and very hourglassy -- 34D chest, a pretty small waist, but hips and thighs that are on the generous side. Suffice to say that the area from my waist to my knees is not my favorite, but I'm making peace with it. I'm in my 40s, so it's about time.

Any suggestions for a flattering sweater dress on someone with my body type? It's not exactly an uncommon body type, so I don't know why it should be so hard! I know that the very chunky knits and straight cuts make me look like a house. I also prefer to keep the length just above the knee.

Thanks in advance!
