Patty, me too...and I'm reading Angie's comment with interest. I have always had the gaping problem...even before I was this chunky around my mid-section. I have a smallish bust and a strong shoulder line. I would never have associated my broad shoulders with the gape. Tell us more, Angie!

I purchased some very nice pins on etsy that I use in the bosom gap. You can have them made out of your spare button from the sweater as well.

Agreed Patty, knitwear = nightmare for me owing to fit issues; I have a similar problem with sizing re my shoulders versus my hips.
Here's what I do if the sewing/pinning/taping doesn't work. Do you ever wear scarves? I use them a lot to sort out front-of-body stuff. For winter, I choose VERY THIN (muslin) cotton or rayon long scarves (in winter colours of course) that squash down to nothing under an overcoat, and are meant to look wrinkled anyway. Because the scarf is of lightweight material, I leave it on all day as part of the outfit, indoors or out. PS> I would make sure the ends hang no lower than the hem of the sweater.
Self-ruffled or permanently wrinkled scarves are great because they seem to arrange themselves without much effort. A long thin casual chain(s) or pendant lying OVER the scarf - or a casual brooch - can help to keep the scarf in place.( or, you can pin it to the sweater.)
The scarves in the pics below are mostly too thick fabricwise for this purpose , but they do show how I style a scarf to fill in the front line of my torso.

I also have this problem. My solution is to just go up a size and cuff/hem the sleeves, and for the sweaters I already have, if I always wear them buttoned, I just sew them shut.

I have this problem, too, so I don't button them - OR I only button one button in the middle-ish, a trick I learned from MaryK.

For button down shirts, I use fashion tape - works like a charm.

I have this trouble with a couple tops and sweaters - and I don't have a big bust or gut - I think it's just the way the item is cut. I've never done the fashion tape but might look into it. I have done the discreet safety pin and also sewing the placket shut on tops where it's more decorative than functional.

This happens to me with very fitted button down shirts. They fit perfectly everywhere (even my shoulders!) except that one stupid button on the chest. I use Matchsticks fashion tape. Fabulous stuff, worth every penny.

Happy New Year ladies!!
We traveled home for the holidays and we are now back at our house, life carries on--except it's colder here so I am wearing my button front sweaters to layer.
I remember now why I don't like to wear them--they gap at the buttons ( I look like my gut is busting out of them--gut not boobs!) so I wear them loose. I swear I am not getting my sweaters (2) too small--they fit in the shoulders, the arms are long enuff, the buttoned front gaps!!! How do you deal with this? I don't want to use tape for something like this--if I wear them a lot (depends on need and tolerance LOL). I stretch it out around the tummy area to get more girth out of the hem but it goes back--grrr. I'd like to wear them, done up, under my coat to go out but that only highlights this effect when the coat is open. And if I button it in the middle it looks odd also. I do admit I bought them separately but never thought to try to button them--just checked the sleeves for enuff length which is usually the clencher for a buy.
You find this happen to you?
