I would also recommend handwashing the sweater if you don't mind. Most of the time pilling comes from friction against the thread, so if you handwash the sweater, you'll have less agitation and most likely less pilling.

It is getting harder and harder to find sweaters of natural fibers anymore. I might have to try some acrylic myself this year.

Thank you, Angie and Texstyle. I think this sweater will be perfect for my purposes. Yay.

Oh, and Angie. If that Ann Taylor sweater were still in stock, I would be buying that one as well.

I have a 100% acrylic jumper that has been great. See Find. I vote go for it.

I do this too sometimes - order before double-checking the fabric content. Great to get some positive assurance from other YLF members about this sweater mix.

I have several sweaters that are an acrylic/cotton blend. Like Aida, I can put them in my washer (which has no agitator). I turn them inside-out and run them on delicate cycle in cold water, then lay them flat over a drying rack and let them air dry. Hope the sweater works out for you. It looks lovely.

Thanks Aida. I really like this sweater. And what AlwaysTrying said about this fabrication being more climate friendly makes me want it even more. Perhaps the reason I don't own that many sweater is because they were always too warm for me. This might make the difference.

I would not be bothered at all about hand washing it.

I haven't had any trouble with my acrylic sweaters. One goes in the washer on delicate and line dries, the other is a more delicate boucle/semi open weave so I just take that one to the dry cleaners. I've also got an acrylic blanket scarf that's holding up nicely. There's hope!

I have only acrylic and cotton sweaters as I live in a warm climate and wool is only OK for cardis. I always hand wash them until they get old then just start throwing them in the washer. I have had very little pilling-but the pilling I experience is almost always with the finer knits-and they may contain nylon. I am considering this sweater in red. at this price it will make a great casual sweater for the holidays.

I found this sweater on the Nordstrom site. I like everything about it. Of course, I ordered it. Then I realized it was 45% acrylic. After Angie's recent post on pilling too. I must have been swayed by the color and forgot to consider fabric content.
