Most of the time pilling comes from friction against the thread, so if you handwash the sweater, you'll have less agitation and most likely less pilling.</p> <p>It is getting harder and harder to find sweaters of natural fibers anymore. Like Aida, I can put them in my washer (which has no agitator). I turn them inside-out and run them on delicate cycle in cold water, then lay them flat over a drying rack and let them air dry. Hope the sweater works out for you. One goes in the washer on delicate and line dries, the other is a more delicate boucle/semi open weave so I just take that one to the dry cleaners. I've also got an acrylic blanket scarf that's holding up nicely.
