These look perfect. I have some cole Haan black boots that look similar to these and I wear them a ton every year. I like the simplicity of of them. I also took a full size smaller in the SW ankle boots I bought last year.

Gryffin, it's so weird, I don't even remember now why I got the 50/50s in an 8.5, since my usual size is 8. They were big on my feet, but I figured I'd just wear my thicker socks with them. However, that did not help the bunching that they did at the ankle -- they had a lot of excess room and material there. When I tried on the 8 in the Mixitup, the issue was better, but it still seemed a little roomy. I thought that was just the cut, until the SA suggested trying the next half size down. That ended up being the answer! I also have heard that they do stretch just a bit with wear. I hope the ones you ordered work for you!

Janet they are stunning on you!! So weird since I just ordered the black suede version last night. SW usually runs small on me, so my usual SW size is 7.5. I ordered my usual 7.5 size and am hoping they are not too big, as per the reviews, as they did not have the 7 in stock. Totally marvelous on you. The fit looks perfect, sleek and so elegant! Enjoy your beautiful new boots!!

Janet, those boots look like they were made for you. The fit is bang on and they look good with and without leggings/pants.

For what its worth, I too wear mostly cool colors and although I love the idea of the cognac boots, I think a medium brown or black works better with my coloring and wardrobe and bookends with my hair. As with all trends, it is best to take and leave based on what works for you.

I love the mixitup boots. I tried on the 50/50s yesterday at the Rack and could not get them off. Fun, but not me. These are a fab replacement for you and I especially like them with skirts because they don't add bulk.

Phenomenal boots! I like that they are sleek and sophisticated, very modern looking. Like you, I see the lack of adornment as a plus. They are chic and versatile. They look equally good with the jeans and the skirt. With the fit and comfort added in, you may have just found your tall black boots!

OOOOO, I LOVE the boots. I agree that one doesn't always need "flashy". You have some beautiful things that I think will do the flash when worn with the boots.

I saw your cognac thread the other day. I too love cognac. Like you, my wardrobe is mostly cool colors and like you , again, I have trouble with the cognac. I don't like matchy, matchy bags and shoes. Though, I DO love a column of black or navy and cognac. I also love charcoal grey with cognac. I saw that a couple of seasons ago in In Style and it was beautiful. But I agree that it is hard to wear. That is why I didn't respond at first. I find it hard to do beyond what I just wrote about. : (

Oh, I also love cognac with forrest green and denim. XXXXXX

In a recent thread, I talked about how my tall boot collection is up for review and possible refreshing:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....high-boots

I had been eyeing these Stuart Weitzman boots on the Nordstrom site as a possible replacement for, well, a couple of my old pairs of boots. I've been craving something streamlined and sleek, and I also would like black, since that is the most useful color for footwear for me. I had a pair of SW 50/50 OTK boots that I sold earlier this year because it turns out they were a FULL SIZE too big for me, and I found the OTK style a bit hard to work with (mainly because of the shape and length of my legs).

These boots are basically the 50/50s but knee-high, and in a 7.5 instead of an 8.5, they fit beautifully. I tried them on here with tights and a skirt, as well as with skinny jeans tucked, and they feel great either way. In fact, they feel better at home than they did in the store, probably because I'm wearing proper hosiery and not footies.

I'm also considering cognac boots (in this thread here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....one-cognac). If I got black tall boots and cognac tall boots, that would probably be it for my F/W boot shopping, unless I find the absolute perfect lower heeled, higher shaft, slightly pointed toe black booties to eventually replace my old Fossil booties in photo 10 (which I love but the almost-4" heel is starting to get to me). Otherwise, my F/W footwear is in a pretty happy place.

I'm not in a rush to decide, but I did want to nab these boots when I saw these were on a very good sale, and not many in my size seem to be available. Fortunately, the Nordstrom return policy means I have time to deliberate while the weather cools off.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or reactions to these. I know they're not embellished or detailed, and I actually *like* that about them. I have other, flashier shoes for when I need my footwear to carry the rock'n'roll spark in an outfit. Sometimes I'd like the reflined, streamlined effect of a simple, elegant boot. I am confident I can style these in a way that will allow edgier or more distinctive pieces to take center stage (my Philip Lim oversized vest would be a good example).

Pardon lack of attention to hair, makeup or styling. Just threw them on with appropriate bottoms and grabbed a top. Not truly styled. :-)

Over to you...what do you think?
