ohhh, you gave me an idea with that Piscine smock. They have that split back. I never thought of wearing a man's shirt backwards and open. Even I can't manage to stain the back of me.

Suz and Vildy, I am absolutely going to join your Edith Head smock club! I've contemplated the Everlane one over and over, and also this one which is cotton and perhaps easier to launder.

I do have a linen pinafore, which is great for what it is, but it doesn't save my sleeves...

Suz nearby me there used to be a tradition around South Philadelphia of the Italian grandmother's smock. Usually printed tunic length garment with short sleeves and a snap front, seam binding or piping.
Sort of adorably retro cheesy.
I've never seen any for sale, so maybe only in the neighborhood. But I agree even this isn't enough. I get small splashes on my pants legs.
I've been wondering about keeping my eye out in the thrift store for a man's shirt in, say, 3x tall.

Vildy, sometimes the appreciation thingie doesn't work the first time -- I'm not sure why. It might depend on your browser. And the little grey rosette is a way that you can report posts if they are spam, etc.

I love Edith Head's idea! TBH, I'm considering a kind of version of it. I mean, in the 60s my mother used to wear aprons, and you can still do that, but they don't cover the sleeves. So what about an Artist's smock? I'm dead serious about this for myself.

Oh wow, I can really relate to this - the double-edge sword of taking outfit photos is that sometimes, to make things more photo-worthy, I end up wearing things that don't feel great - as a uniform dresser, my daily skinnies and fine-knit top makes for boring photography but happy Helena. This is a great reminder. Mind you, if I looked like Amal Clooney like this woman does, I probably wouldn't care what I wore

Vildy - exactly! I have a friend who does this. Every time I stop by he is wearing sloppy sweats and an old tee and it looks like he just got up from napping - which actually he just has many times! Ha!

It sounds, from this post and others, that her biggest challenge was not in the clothes she habitually wore at home but rather in the idea that what she wore for fashion shoots wasn't genuine. Perhaps the contrast between the no-brainer home wear and the contrived fashion shoots interacted to make her realize she didn't want to wear skirts ever again. I think she mentions that her dress and skirt photos are from a stock of old photos she's working her way through.

My challenge is more that I enjoy looking dressy at home but there's a limit to what you can get away with without ruining them or causing a lot of extra maintenance work. I think of Edith Head's idea that the housewife should wear a quick change coverall over her clothes.

Vildy - I enjoyed this too being another mostly work at home professional. It has taken me some time but I have mostly refined my closet to reflect my real life, which is quite casual. I don't really wear sweats or sloppy t-shirts because I don't like feeling like I am ready for lounging. I own just a few more formal outfits for meetings and such. I update those much less often.

Most days working at home I enjoy slightly graphic tees, or comfortable looser button downs. slip on sneaks, jeans and just a little polish with jewelry, a nice handbag, and a belt most of the time. Hair and some makeup are something I do every day for myself.

Sometimes I do buy something more dressy than I need - I have a new dress I'm on the fence about right now in fact (I know I likely won't wear it more than a few times, but I still really like it). It's hard sometimes accepting your "real" life.

Vildy, it is interesting -- I love how she comes back to this point, which is really about personal style vs. fashion and dressing for the life you actually live vs. the one you want to pretend you live:

Too often, we are inundated with inspiration from blogs and Pinterest and Instagram (and the list goes on.) We get caught up thinking about how beautiful certain clothes will look in photos without necessarily considering how they will feel to wear. Or at least, I do. By taking photos of my daily outfits for three months, I reminded myself, almost every day, how silly that is. Fashion is about experimenting and having fun, it’s true. But it’s also about feeling good in your clothes. And if you don’t feel good, what’s the point?

Thank you, Vildy! It's so good of you to point this out!

Yes, it is a constant challenge for sure. I will go back and read in greater depth, not least because the blogger spends part of the year in Winnipeg so maybe she has some tips about Canadian winter style! :)

Partly because I also have a bunch of "outward facing" roles, I have managed to avoid the trap of wearing sweatpants all day -- although admittedly, in deep winter I do revert to the cozy sweats and cashmere for a few weeks while I'm at home. :)

But I have to admit that I tend to revert to a "uniform" of jeans and a pullover a lot of days. Still, with a bit more effort I could make the jeans and pullover more interesting. Part of it comes down to the design details that the blogger looks for, I suspect.

I checked out the featured blog and when I read this post about work at home style, I thought about your own efforts.

https://www.cocoandvera.com/20.....y-outfits/
"
I was in the habit of saving my best outfits until the weekend. And of
spending my Saturdays running around to multiple locations to get photos
of them all. Which means I was also in the habit of not giving a lot of
thought to my daily outfits. I could wear the same sweater and jeans
two days in a row, because we would capture my best outfits at the end
of the week. (Or, to be totally honest, I could wear sweatpants five
days in a row, because I work from home, so no one would know.) What is
normal to most people – choosing clothes every morning – became totally
abnormal to me. And in Europe, I had to relearn how to do it.

"
