You look nice as well as warm. Great job with the accessories. You didn't mention socks, but on cold days I wear thick, fuzzy socks under my leather boots to keep my feet warm. No one has to know!

Greetings, MG! The hair dragon is my favorite! I've also been looking for burgundy jeans all year with no luck. I'll have to satisfy myself with enjoying them on you!

I lived in Tulsa for two years --- I loved March/April, because they're really spring months there, bursting with azaleas and bulbs. August heat? Not so much!

I love the hair dragon, and I think the pendant makes the outfit!

I'm so over the polar vortex too. Our winters usually aren't nearly this bad either -- it's usually news if it gets down into the teens ever.

Looking good! A sleek, warm look wins the day. :) That hair barrette is jaw dropping. Your reason for not wearing a silk scarf made me laugh.

A lot of the kids around here don't have winter gear either, although we're not going to drop as low as you (20s I think the lowest expected). I saw teens walking home in hoodies during our last cold snap, when I was comfortably bundled in knee length wool coat & hat/scarf/gloves & more wool underneath. Although the high school I live near is a well off one, so I think it's more a cool thing than financial need. Kid coats are only $2 at our Goodwills, so hopefully those who need them can find them.

And don't be too self-deprecating -- even if it isn't record-breaking, 6 degrees F is cold by anyone's standard.

Style epiphanies notwithstanding, some days are just about surviving the polar vortex. Yes I know our pathetic 6F temps are making you northerners roll your eyes, but considering we didn't even get a truly hard freeze the past couple of winters, these temps are really difficult for this part of the country. Not to get all serious, but many kids here don't even have winter coats, much less hats and gloves and all the other necessities.

Anyway, all I truly cared about today was staying warm. My burgendy trousers are my heaviest weight and loosest fitting pants, which means they can be worn with polypro long johns, so I started there. Added this very heavy ribbed black turtle neck appropriated from the husband (over a layering T) and black buckle boots. I didn't want to put a silk scarf anywhere near my grody needs to be washed hair, so I wanted a piece of jewelry to go with the trousers and break up all that boobage. Decided on this faceted carnelian pendant set in sterling silver, that I bought in Albuquerque several years ago. Since the shape is square it took me awhile to find earrings to harmonize - I finally went with my prayer wheel earrings. Finally, in attempt to pull in a wee bit more Asian influence, I added this awesome hair ornament carved from water buffalo horn. It's difficult to see, but it's a dragon - the stick is going through its mouth.

I wasn't thrilled with this when I left the house, but I actually like the pics better than I thought I would. If nothing else, I look warm, right?
