Thanks for chiming back in Peri - I was hoping you would. I wanted to get a better feel for what you meant by fitted so I could kind of mull it over more myself. My "fitted" knits are a FFBO thing for me and also can feel a bit "tired" even when they are new. It's the same silhouette thing worn too often I guess. At the same time I don't like oversized so I'm still trying to find the right groove for my new tops. I love to wear light jackets (it's rarely cold enough here for more than a light jacket) so I find that I have to wear tops that can be layered over without bunching up.

Not bumping to bump, but texstyle, yes, that is what I am calling fitted. I consider body con to be tight, like really wanting to draw attention to your figure, and that has never been me under any circumstance! My tops like your picture are the ones I'm not feeling anymore...but to be fair, they are also all several years old so just being tired of them may be a factor too.

I still wore them happily enough last Fall, but this year I want more than "happy enough". Looser, more fluid and drapey is feeling fresher to me right now, to use an Angie term. The surprise is that I want this newness...I want to feel like my style is fresh...and before this YLF journey I just aspired to looking "okay".

I would call that fitted. Not skin tight, but showing curves more than something shapeless.

I wonder when everyone says "fitted" do they mean truly snug to the body form fitted or do you mean somewhat fitted in that it still shows your shape but is not body con? Example, in the image below - would you call it "fitted"? Just trying to clarify in my own mind...

Great post! Yes, I like you have radically changed the way I look at clothes and style since discovering ylf! I don't just wear things because I'm used to it, but because I like how they look and feel good in them. I like the fluid trend and recently purchased a shift dress and a blouson dress that are really cute and they look much better on my rectangle figure than some of my old fit and flare styles!

You can still show off your figure with drapy fabrics that "fall back in" on your shape without being overtly tight and making you feel self conscious.

After a few years following YLF, I don't feel that my outfits are miles apart when comparing this summer to last summer, say. There are differences, refinements, but not the beginning sea change of working out a style. (And yes, I'm a classic, so I probably won't have frequent, radical change.)

I suspect that many of us first engage with YLF because, on some level, we're craving and ready for change. The biggest difference for me is that my current wardrobe works so much better than before. I still have a long way to go, but I don't buy isolated pieces, but focus more on ensemble players! Ease and fluidity are big influences for me, too, but I think there's room for a variety of fits.

No, this makes sense to me. I think the BIG difference is the fabric and fluidity. Back then looser tops were just blocky. Now, hopefully, they drape and move with you.

Years ago I liked things loose and what would now be called oversized. My husband didn't like them so much and always wanted me to wear more fitted, but I was shy about my ooh-la-la kind of figure. I finally went with things more fitted...never body con, just not oversized...and got to be okay with that.

Since last spring I've been going more with drapey, soft looks and tops that are longer, and I'm back to not liking the fitted things.

What I can't really figure out is whether this is following trends or just going back to my old comfort zone. Will I have to adjust again when things swing back to fitted? Does it matter? For now at least what I'm liking seems to be more current and that doesn't happen often. Well, in tops at least...I am still way out of trend in pants.

Ah, the tight, short top - my nemesis. It took me soooo much to figure out why it was no longer my friend when I first joined here. Like, seriously, I was pleading . . . explain to me WHYYYY?
So, yes, YLF can shift your viewpoint on what was once blissfully near and dear. Lucky for me, I had too little to spend to eff it up too much in the beginning

Oh, man. This one really speaks to me. I had lost weight just before I joined YLF and basically needed a whole new wardrobe. So I bought one (mostly at consignment, by thrift, and at sales) just before joining YLF and during my first year.

Well, by the next year when I hauled that stuff out I realized I needed a whole NEW wardrobe. And it wasn't because the clothes didn't fit.

I am hopeful that the speed of transition will slow down a bit in the next year or two. I am still purging quite a lot (and buying replacement items) but far less than before. I'm getting closer to knowing my real needs and best looks. And being able to tell before I plonk down the cash whether or not something will really hit my happiness buttons.

I do think that my style will continue to evolve more quickly than it might have done in the years when I was basically ignoring fashion. Even though I love the classics, I still like some trends, so those will always need updating.

For me, I don't how much of it is a true change versus refining. Since I started reading Angie's posts and participating in the forums, I've realized the difference between what I like and will wear as opposed to what looks nice.

Or maybe just because of the ongoing purge and the decision to try to be less dated. To follow the happiness factor. Which I guess is all YLF influence also.

I got out some Fall tops I was fine with last year and this year I really can't stand them. I've never noticed a difference within a year before. I think I got on board the loose and fluid trend over the summer and these are by comparison short and fitted. I don't think I'm purging, but I think they will go hide for awhile.

How fast does your style change?
