That is what I keep trying to tell myself. My self esteem has suffered GREATLY and I am so convinced that I am going to get or have melanoma despite regular visits to the derm that I have to see a psychiatrist. Not to mention I am not adjusting well to the pale skin. Vanity, right? I have had two cancer scares this year...... uterine/cervical and breast. Hysterectomy and lumpectomy so I guess sun spots shouldn't bother me! Thank you for being so kind!

I guess if you are most concerned with being able to bare your legs, you could just try self tanning lotion. The gradual build up kind seems to work without looking orangey (like the Jergens). You could also spot (he he) treat the worst areas, but I imagine that could get time consuming. Lastly, most people won't even notice what we tend to magnify in our own heads

Trust me, thanks to the sunshine and the tanning booths. I see a dermatologist on a regular basis. He is more concerned with the medical side of it. He always says that there are things that we can do but as of yet he hasn't offered up any solutions. I stopped tanning over a year ago. I have been tan on and off (mostly on) for 20 years.
When the tan faded moles and freckles were revealed! My sister and I are gentically moley but I never thought anything of it. By no means a beauty but others have always considered me attractive until now..... I am pale and aging! I use to love to show off my body! I refuse to wear a dress.

Story of my life. running in the FL sun, working a golf bev cart all season long. It takes its toll. If it's melasma, and not just sun spots, laser can actually make it worse. Also, there are creams like Obagi and PCA your derm can give you. I did Obagi and it helped - a little. I'm sticking with drugstore remedies for now. My sympathies.

Looks like you can get the PCA without the dermatologist http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....1LTQJPW08P

:( Sorry.

Can you consult with a dermatologist about it? Some derms have in-house estheticians who specialize in photo facials/lasers that might be able to help you lighten them. I've also heard vitamin C (usually found in serum form) is good for sun damage on the face. I imagine it might be true for skin on other parts of the body as well. It takes a while for the spots to start fading though, so you have to be patient. Either way, I think seeing a dermatologist is probably a good first step.
