Thanks Janet. Exactly what I wanted to know. I put “ linen spandex “ into the search box on Nordstrom mobile application and it understood what I meant and came up with 169 options. Unfortunately most of the samples I glanced at include some sort of Viscose or Rayon or polyester in the blend. I’ve got old linen/rayon pants and they make my legs very hot and basically defeat the purpose of linen. But I’ll keep this simple two materials blend in mind when I look further.

Hey 3style, I’m just seeing your questions now — Timely since I wore that dress yesterday for a little 4th of July cookout at our house.

The dress travels and wears so well! It washes really nicely and regains its shape with a simple hang-drying — I don’t put it in the dryer. No shrinking in my experience. The slight bit of stretch does a great job of helping it keep its shape, even after a period of time sitting (no baggy butt!). It’s linen-y texture doesn’t really show wrinkles at all, and it’s sort of a two-ply fabric that is plenty opaque without a slip. If they offered this same dress in a other print I liked, I would duplicate it. Hope that helps!

Janet, I’m curious about the Tommy Bahama inter coastal ikat dress. I’ve never tried anything that is 96% linen with 4% spandex. Does the spandex reduce wrinkles? Is the dress opaque enough for not needing a slip?

I’m maxed out on buying dresses for this season, but am still considering purchasing a linen blazer and/or trousers, and unsure about whether I want pure or blended linen. So I’m looking for information on wrinkles, resilience, and opacity of this type of fabric blend. Thanks.

Hey all! I’ve been a bit scarce on the forum lately (my off topic post explains a little of it), but thanks for the feedback on the hats!

I ended up keeping 2 and 8 (1 and 3 are staying in my collection too). I only took a quick photo before heading to the pool one morning on vacation so you get the idea of how I dressed pretty much every day of vacation (evenings were my dresses to go out for dinner).

The Finds here are pretty much what I took on our trip to Cabo (plus swimsuits and a pair of shorts and a couple of tees, and a running/workout ensemble). It all worked out perfectly and I felt good wearing all of it!

Thanks for the feedback.

I can see why you like the JCrew hat as it reminds me of your workhorse in #3. You look fab in the wide brims like 2 and 7. As a newbie to sun hats with a child-sized head, I have big challenges and no recommendations.
You are lucky to be able to wear hats so well. You might consider adding a canvas one or getting a raffia bag or two to make some hat/bag compliments. Espadrilles may also work for compliment building.

I was going to post that I finally got around to buying a copy of Janet’s sun hat from J Crew. Then I got home from the store and checked online. I got the packable straw hat. Janet had purchased the wide brimmed packable straw hat. There are a bunch of other straw hat options at J Crew online too. The brim on the regular one is medium width.

I’m actually glad that I inadvertently got the wrong one, because the shorter brim has a more tradionally safari fedora masculine vibe which works better with all of my safari vests. And also because my other straw hat is very round and wide brimmed and I like that they are very different from one another. The old one reminds me of a Holly Hobbie bonnet, since it’s got the chin strap option. It’s actually just a regular round top hat, but it’s got a bit of a 19th century vibe on me.

Anyway, the JCREW hat is very comfortable. And it looks like they are routinely in the straw hat business and provide 3 sizes for many of the styles, leading probably to a better fit for folks than the more common two sizes option. And 30% off now.

Wow, thanks, everyone! So much to consider.

Today I took a gander at my coverups and realized they are starting to show their age (the newest one of my three old reliables is seven years old!). So I took a little trip to the mall today (it’s been raining all weekend and it seemed everybody else in town decided to do the same thing!), and found a new one that is black. Because I now have a non-patterned black coverup, I’m feeling better about the black and white hat. (My old favorite coverup is a busy black and white print — I’m not getting rid of it, but will be putting it in lesser rotation.) I also really like the idea of a more compact packable hat as well, so it’s looking like 2 and 8 are coming with me. I haven’t been back to see if 7 is still available.

Asking me to vote on sunhats is like trying to get objective advice on flavors from the person behind the ice cream stand.

For beach / pool bigger is better for sun protection so go Texas-sized: 1, 6, 7. Note I'm not enabling, just stating for the record. ;)

5 and 8 seem to have a similar vibe but I could make a case for dressier vs more casual if needed. Say the word.

Then the ones you own are great too. Think that covers them all but I'm not swimming back to Temptation Island to double-check. Still recovering from your other hat thread!

#2 and #8. When I try on hats I look for non-floppy versions - I prefer stiff horizontal as my mouth has a natural droop (I smile in pictures but am actual a lifelong RFF -resting frown face, my rebranding) and under a hat that is all you see. This is a real problem when I want a packable hat and if the JCrew truly retains its shape I want one!

#7 is in a boutique in downtown Annapolis — I’m not even sure it will still be there if I go back, but I think I’ll try to swing by tomorrow. If it’s still there, I’ll tell you the name of the manufacturer, MOTM!

Colette, I have quite a small head too — I’ve been more than a little surprised that this many hats out there fit me, but there really seem to be a LOT of great sun hats available now — people must be getting more serious about covering up in the sun around here.

What Angie said, I also like 6 and think 8 is good too for a different fun vibe. You outfit is great - so polished yet casual. I bought a maxi late last summer and love its ease but struggle with tops, I don’t like tucking with my full bust and high waist, yet most shoes f my tops are too long to be JFE. The knotted t is going on to my must try list.

I personally have a tough time with hats, I have a small head so my hat game has been really bad. I didn't want to spend a fortune but I found one at Nordstrom that comes in sizes and it fits. In person it reminds me of your JCrew.

LTS, I am more of a one-pattern person too! But sometimes I make exceptions.

I can justify a couple of new hats for summer, as it's been a long time since I added to the collection, and some old ones are probably ready to go. So the feedback is helpful!

My faves are silver #7 and JCrew #8, giving you two versatile options, one nicer and one more casual (and packable). They both look great on you.

I do think the patterned ones have a bit too much going on, but I'm more of a one-pattern-per-outfit kind of person.

Ah! Angie's eagle eye spotted my new slides. I love my rose gold, and my mixed metallic sandals, but I was missing my old silver slides (which are now pretty much only wearable as house shoes), so I tried these and couldn't resist. They are SO comfortable. They are slightly roomy on my feet, so might be an even better fit on someone with a more firmly medium foot volume, but not so big as to fly off my feet when I walk, or to look overly big on my feet. They're by Gabor, I'm adding the Find now. :-)
