Suz, I totally get that. And thanks for your kind words. I feel I am a pair shape because my thighs are the widest part of me. But I can sort of fake an hourglass shape because, even though I have a small bust, I have broad shoulders. I like edgy femme! But as you know, sometimes I like a retro look with little or no edge. So I doubt I will ever settle on a single descriptor.
Lyn, thanks, we can share the title! You should post more wiws (pretty please). I recommend some tan peep toe booties because they are a great light neutral for summer.
And thanks Summer.

Wow, what a gorgeous set of outfits. It may be a kind of "uniform" but you wear it extraordinarily well -- you know what suits you and you know what works. You have the best set of accessories ever -- I always admire your footwear, bags, and necklaces/ bracelets. These are so important to summer dressing. I also think you pick patterns very well -- they are feminine and add interest without being overly "pretty" or "nice."

Like Angie, I see the blue dominated outfit as being more feminine looking perhaps -- or at least less hard edged.

I might not call these looks "tough" though. More "feminine with an edge?" "Edgy Femme?" Something like that.

Do you consider yourself to have a pear shape? I'd have called you a rectangle for sure! Interesting.

In any case -- on the subject of dresses/ skirts, I for one would wear far more of them if I lived in your climate. As you know, like you, I adore a good tube skirt and I wear them all summer here and love love love the option to do so, much as you like wearing jeans when you get the chance.

But skirts and dresses are much less practical in my cold climate, esp. since I work from home and tend to curl up on the couch with my laptop. Layering in hose (that my cat can run and that probably isn't warm enough), hiking the garment up to sit, not being able to move well (unless the skirts are knit, which wouldn't be warm enough in the winds when I go out) -- it's just not going to work, though I have tried several times to make a go of it.

You are a great inspiration for me personally. I was the former Queen of PencilSkirts on YLF:-) just a bit more classic. Formula pencil + top still works and is still easy for me, but wanted to toughen up a bit, me too. I do only have one peep toe bootie sandals (in black) and would like to hunt down one in metallic or tan, too-as like others said-and you did it so well, shoe choice is critical, here. Love all your outfits posted a great formula and great accessories(not only shoes) as well:-).

Thanks Kerlyn! I am really flattered by that. It's amazing the difference that choice of accessories will make to an outfit. Like hobo bag = more boho and satchel = more classic, ladylike. I love playing around with those touches. Especially in summer when you can't do much more.
Aw, thanks again Angie. You are too kind.
Thanks Jenn. I'll take "sharp" That's a clever analysis: that boho touches punch above their weight. That may be why I shy away from too much boho. I don't like too much of anything. And yes, I am a bit bored with summer. Mostly I am fed up with the heat. It's been a very hot summer here. But I do long to wear boots and a jacket again. Soon. Very soon.
Thanks Jane and Jenni!
Thanks Caro. I remember you saying something like your summer garments have to be simple and stand alone for interest. I am trying to apply that by carefully choosing pattern. If the pattern makes me happy then the outfit will make me happy.
Thanks Coco. Great to "see" you again and commiserations on the heat. I am breaking out the boots in March. No matter what. Please feel free to join me :)
Thanks Shevia. If only my curls would behave! I don't know how you do it. You should be giving a Masterclass in curl management.

Whatever you call it, this formula works so well for you. I do often get a boho vibe from your outfits, but I wonder if it's more the jewelry than the actual clothing. You and Jenn both seem to be able to take a simple black top (just as an example) and jeans or skirt, but then you add just the right jewelry. A bold cuff or interesting pendant. And something about that jewelry reads a bit boho to my eye....maybe because it's somewhat earthy, organic, globally-inspired? Im struggling to find the right words here!

You definitely have both tough and pretty elements covered. Your great shoes and your black items read a bit tough. But then you soften that with your lovely florals, pearls, and even your curls in #4. It's a great juxtaposition and one of the reasons I'm drawn to your style.

You've got a formula that works for you for the summer, I say go with it. Summer dressing is hard, without layers to make things interesting. Your patterns work really well, especially when combined with interesting shoes, bags, jewelry. Are you bored by it?

I kind of like the word "sharp" for you, rather than tough. I do understand your struggles with "boho," though. I have a strong boho element to my style, but when I try to use that as a guideline for shopping, it easily gets to be too much. I suspect even the smallest boho touches punch above their weight class when it comes to style direction.

I sympathise about the heat, and it goes on even longer here. It doesn't cool down until the end of April and by then I'm so over my summer wardrobe and dreaming of jackets.

I really like your Summer formula. It looks modern and interesting. Your shoe choices help add that 'tough' quality that really suits you. I see the floral prints as adding pretty elements, but then you add a great shoe to toughen it up. I think tough + pretty is perfect!

I think you look amazing in all of them. I think you are right though that #1 is more tough and #6 more pretty, for #6 I think it is the fresher colour and the flowers. I think I like #3 the best because I really like the way the metallic sandals go with that skirt- and yes such an interesting necklace.
I don't see any boho myself, this is much more structured than boho which is more drapey to my mind.

Thanks Sally and Momo!
Thanks Janet. I can see you in this look. I think there is a lot of commonality in our styles. But yes, not that practical for working in a studio! I sit at a desk most of the day so I can get away with a tapered skirt and heels. It would be a different story if I were on my feet all day.
Unfrumped, thanks. Love your skirts. Have you thought about a patterned a-line skirt? They are good for a pear shape too. Thanks for the comment on my necklaces. I am picky, picky, picky about them.
Angie, thanks! I love the white accent of the pearls. Makes me feel glam. And I am still looking for some white booties like yours

Whatever you call it, your work style here is great! This is how I would prefer to dress if I were in a work environment in the summer (and I lost the pesky extra weight I've gained back). I would be copying you 100% if my life and work were less casual.

This is a silhouette that worked well for me when I was slimmer, so I agree with your point about how it flatters a slightly pear-ish figure.

I have a sugar eye for patterned pencil skirts even though I am a pear shape and perhaps should mostly wear pattern on top.
I like your necklaces and think wearing an interesting necklace--" statement" in some sense but does not have to be a huge drapey thing-- is good for hot weather dressing. The interesting booties also are great.

Thanks Sterling! The uniqlo top is pure cotton - their summer "UV cut" range. Light but not sheer/see through. I actually have 3: black, blue and white, and have been wearing them a lot this summer. They wash well. I would get more if they had more of my colours. I got a size medium. I am a US size 6 but quite broad shouldered.
Smittie, thanks. It's interesting that you see boho. I thought no 3 was a little boho but the rest weren't. But maybe it's in my genes to lean boho. I still love the a-line skirts but only have 2 a-line skirts that are summer weight. A patchwork denim one that I have posted before and the Zara chevron one that I posted about earlier this year. I have been wearing them. I have some heavier a-line skirts that will come out when the weather gets cooler. I also just got this jacquard one (for Autumn/Winter). I want to do a "punk meets prom" look

Bijou, thanks. My workplace is the opposite - very warm. I have given up on summer jackets because I end up just carrying them around and not wearing them. You must be getting our hot weather. It is cooler here today and I am wearing jeans for the first time this year. Yay!
Shedev. Thanks for your interesting analysis! You see what I see because I don't think I am that boho either, although I definitely like the look. I have never thought of myself as bombshell because I don't have a bombshell shape but I see what you are getting at. I like the mix of the traditional feminine silhouette with the tough (less traditional) add-ons (like heavy footwear). And I agree that feminine and tough aren't mutually exclusive.
Lisa, thanks. Skirts work well for my pear shape. I am kind of surprised I don't see more forum members wearing them. Pants seem to be much more popular on the forum. I wonder whether there is a cultural difference going on (perhaps partly explained by climate) because lots of women wear skirts and dresses here.
Jill58, thanks. It's a great bag, isn't? Good colour and size, and a bit of edge with the zip trim.
Angie, thanks. A "K" and a title! I am honoured! I agree with you about the black. The second last outfit is actually blue but I think the pattern in the skirt makes it a bit tough. It's supposedly a fern print, but it's kind of fierce. Also my footwear is tough, I think. I am wearing some pearls in some of the outfits though, inspired by you

All of these are perfect. You look so glamorous in these looks. I love how there is variation on a theme - your bags and shoes really add interest. We are about to get a dose of very hot weather, so I may need to copy your formula. Unfortunately where I work the air conditioning is set to freezing, so I wear a jacket indoors and take it off to go outside!

I don't think that toughness and femininity are mutually exclusive, and you have nailed them both to perfection. This is a really great uniform. I don't usually see a whole lot of boho in your looks, it seems like more of a shadow persona to me than your primary identity. I see a lot of figure flattery and a good dose of edge really consistently. The first descriptor I used for myself on YLF was Urban Warrior Bombshell. I see some of that in your look and I feel that something with that sort of feeling may fit you.

Love them all - as this silhouette really flatters your body. They look the same to me and I'm not noticing a difference in toughness vs femininity unless I really micro-analyze......which no-one seeing you would do. I'd dress like this too if I lived in a climate like yours and had a fat-free figure . The use of metallic shoes and interesting jewellery is what keeps everything fresh looking .

I like every one of these outfits. I'm not good at style descriptors but this looks like a really good formula for you. Very chic. You seem to be using pattern in a very cohesive way. Bye the way, I too have a RM 'Amorous' satchel and love mine. People often comment on it which surprises me because it's a relatively understated bag but the details make it interesting.
