Well I like your hot weather outfit Mo, it looks refreshingly cool to me. I suppose you can go for one piece, a dress maybe that doesn't cling, perhaps a surrender the waist look? The less fabric touching the cooler it is? (Although I like your outfit a lot)

I'd agree with trying rompers and maxi dresses, especially those made of really light-weight fabrics-- cotton, thin jersey, etc.

Also, you could try some sheer layers to mix it up? A sheer blouse maybe, or a lace overlay tank?

I don't really know a whole lot about warm weather dressing, seeing as I could basically wear a jacket the whole year round, but I think the above might give you a chance to mix it up without making you too hot and sticky. xD

Today was 93 again, and even after swimming in the community pool and then coming home for a shower and a change, I was HOT. So hot that I couldn't even fathom shorts touching my legs to go run errands. So I ended up in a (what I now recognize as memorable) skirt and ribbed tank. And I was STILL hot. Ugh. And this is just the beginning. . .

I do get crankly with hot weather dressing. And I live in a 4 season state! Apparently my tolerance for any one style of dress for the weather is about 2 months, then I get bored. When we go over that time frame I find it hard to stay interested. For this summer I plan to push the envelope with my style. My usual is jeans for work and a nice top. This year I plan to wear more dresses. Since I like to wear scarves I'm looking for pendant necklaces that are long. And if I get really bored I'll start checking out lighter colored bottoms (instead of jeans all the time, maybe trousers in linen?). I'm also going to try new silouettes, cropped cardigans with longer tops underneath. If I play around with the basic ideas that I like but change the items I may stay interested (ie scarves to necklaces, blazers to cropped cardigans, skinny jeans for boot tucking to flares over sandals).

Not me....I love summer! Yes, I live in DC and it gets hot as hades here. It has been in the 80s for the past few days and I'm in Heaven (yes, with a capital H). I'd much rather be hot than cold! Summer beauty is easy! A dress, cute sandles, a pedicure! That's it! Winter is another story - I don't like winter and all those layers. Blech.

Oh malina, you read my mind. I hate hot, sticky summers, which sadly are the norm here in Toronto. I become cranky and unpleasant when the temperature crosses 80, and dressing for my overlarge shape is a nightmare that only contributes to my bad mood. Thanks to YLF, though, I can feel better about the process largely due to accessories. Earrings, bags and sandals in particular. I also wanted to second the magical properties of silk, the true four-season fabric.

I'm still excited about summer, but I know once our highs move from the 90s to the 100s I'll be right there with you!

The hardest part for me is that once it's over 100 I just don't want to wear any accessories. I can maybe do earrings, maybe. But even my watch and bracelet feel oppressive, a necklace feels like it's choking me, belts leave a ring of sweat around my middle and make me feel like I can't breath fully, and scarves are completely out of the question. My ideal yet doable summer outfit is sandals, a dress, and earrings, and I've been focusing on buying dresses that can really stand alone without requiring any accessories.

I can't share these feelings as it has yet to get hot and stay really hot here AND summer is pretty much my favorite season to dress for....but hang in there! It seems like you've gotten some great advice, not sure if it's been mentioned but doing a super high bun on top of your head seems to be all over the place this spring/summer and with your long hair you could totally make it work!

You must be reading my mind, Mo! I love so much about summer: 2 months off of work, ponytails, gardening, sailing, picking crabs on the dock...

But fashion season it just isn't. Fall and winter clothes can be layered endlessly, but summer feels like a rut way too soon. I figure I'll use NAS in July as something to look forward to, fashion-wise. Other than that, it's more a race to stay cool. :O

This weather is coming and I'm not looking forward to it. Last summer a find of a sleeveless jacket in black and my Hinge buttondown vest were fun to use over tanks as a layer that didn't add much heat. If it was really hot, they could be removed. In hot weather I can't stand kind of sleeve unless it is silk or the open nylon mesh used in Sweet Pea brand tops.

I know you guys don't want to hear this, but summer sounds pretty darn good to me right now!
It's still in the 50s here in the Bay Area (and windy!) and I am SO tired of wearing skirts and dresses with thick tights, long cardigans, scarves, etc. It never gots HOT here but usually we're at least upper 60s/low 70s by now...sigh. I want to break out my spring/summer attire!

Mo--not sure if this makes ANY sense, but here's one long hair updo that I can manage on my own:
-Put your hair in a ponytail (somewhat low but not quite on nape of neck)
-Flip ponytail up and make a sort of bun that you secure with another rubberband (the majority of your ponytail will be flipped up on your head at this stage)
-Let the pieces fall where they may or, if you prefer, tuck them in and around the bun for a sort of messy updo

I am thinking fit and cut will be even more crucial than usual, since we will be wearing comparatively fewer pieces and layers. The other thing I am thinking is to keep the clothes minimal and pay extra attention to killer accessories.

I love warm weather and dresses, so I'm probably not the best advice giver for this... anyhow, my .02 is to mix up accessories and shoes. If you wear your hair up, different styles of earrings can really add interest to your outfit and, of course, I like bangles and bracelets. Also open toe heels with cropped cigarette style trousers are cute (controversial, I know!). What about short sleeved cardigans as layering options? And 3/4 sleeves aren't terribly hot but look dressier than sleeveless shirts.

Oh, and if you like scarves, you can always use those chiffon and linen type scarves to dress things up. Sarah had a cute sleeveless vest on her blog that she wore over a dress and I thought that was a pretty and cool way to wear layers.

I hear you! I'm on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and it's been in the 90's here already. I think if you get a few sundresses, and a maxi dress would be perfect, too, some light skirts and cute tops you can always have fun with the accessories...mix it up with cute bags, sparkly sandles or espadrilles, sunglasses, jewelry, with a bit of a tan and a messy updo you'll be chic...fun and easy! Updo's are a must for me, too! Of course, if you work it's going to be a bit more challenging to still look professional when you are so hot in your clothing. It's easier for me to do this because I don't work, so the only time I really have to dress up is for church or a special occasion, otherwise I'm pretty casual.

I'm not gonna lie...I've totally just gotten some spray deodorant, sprayed it in the air, and walked through it like I'm applying perfume. I hate when the fabrics of my clothes stick to my chest or back on 80-90 degree days, especially in a hot workplace where dressing professionally is still a must. A little embarrassing, but hey, it's less embarrassing than being sweaty at work.

I also ascribe to the belief that silk is a MAGIC fabric--warm in the winter, yet somehow very breathable and cool in the summer. It's one of the reasons I love incorporating silks and silk blends into my wardrobe.

I'll be joining you soon enough!
I wear the same darn summer dresses and sandals for 6 months, and it does start to be boring after a while.

Modgirl, I am really starting to turn over the romper idea in my mind as of late. I may just have to look into that. Or perhaps a colorblock maxi dress. Yes, my friend Renee will have to wait LOL! (the bid ends tomorrow and I"m waiting to see what happens price wise with it, if it gets relisted )
BM, I think I'm just one of those people who isn't a fan of the heat. I even lived in Las Vegas once but I don't know how I survived. The Sierra Nevadas are truly home and I'm only still comfortable under 80 degrees. I just feel sticky and melting in southern summers.
As I mentioned, I have half a dozen sundresses, skirts and shorts with at least a dozen sleevless tops and plenty of cute sandals. But it seems to be repetitive to me. Maybe I'm just bored with what I've got. Perhaps I have to go on a remix mission in my closet.

Im so sorry you feel that way Summer is my favorite time of year....Definitely keep your pretty hair up when you can- it feels SOO much better off the neck in the heat...a cool wet washcloth around the neck, face and arms has helped revive me many times!
