In the summer season we have to wear the cotton cloths so that we feel better and comfortable. The casual dress code is often abused in the name of "comfort”.It’s essential that we wear the right casual top to ensure a high style quotient.

Hi Becky, I personally believe that it's worthy of smart casual, especially if the tops are made from polished materials. If the tops a re more casual, than the whole look would be more a casual than smart casual.

I wonder about wearing a tank or cami with a short-sleeved or 3/4-sleeve button-down worn open over the top (like a cardigan). Is that look acceptable for casual or smart casual?

Thanks Tanya and Antje for your replies. I'll wear both of them!

My gladiators don't have high straps (I have posted a picture in another thread but I forgot which one.) It's very comfortable so 'll wear it when I need to walk more.

One down and more to go...

Lovely top! I vote for fuchsia, because it would pop more (and because I like the color a lot ;-)) but I'm sure the metallic bronze gladiators will look good, too.
Sounds like a great summer look.

Julia I think both of those colors would look great with navy/white combo, fushia especially. I don't know how high the ankle straps are on your gladiator sandals, so be careful not to cut your leg line off when wearing them with your clamdiggers.

Oh, I did buy this one in navy to go with my white clamdiggers:

http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....pid=566225

I have a pair of fushia sandals and a pair of metallic bronze gladiators, which one would be better for it?

Becky I'm glad that you brought this top up again. I'm still searching for blousy tops and a great day dress. With so many choices out there I'm just lost.

Angie would you post some pictures to enlighten us?

Beautiful advice!

I personally substitute clamdiggers for jeans and wear blousy tops along with fab bag, shoes and accessories. I don’t wear skirts in Summer because I prefer dresses. So day dresses with little sandals or flats is always a good formula. Easy.

I think if it's hot enough that you're only going to want to wear two pieces (top with pants, shorts or skirt) or one piece (a dress) then the formula (assuming you've taken Angie lessons and have the clothing silouhettes down pat) is:

1) Statement jewelry

2) A great bag

3) Fab shoes

If you're not layering, then would go with at least 2 of the above, if not all 3.

For example, sometimes I just don't want to wear too much jewelry - it's too hot and sticky for anything more than simple stud earrings or a delicate necklace. So then the shoes and bag become that much more important.

And sometimes, my shoes may be less than interesting because I simply need comfort and practicality more than style; so then my bag and jewelry become that much more important.

Interest can be in the color, or it can be in the details. Colorful bags and shoes are big right now. Metallics too. But if you keep bags and shoes neutral, go for details.

For example a straw bag is all about adding texture - the color itself is neutral. Patent leather for sandals is big right now - patent would add detail even if the color is neutral. Or buckles or other hardware adds detail.

I work where the summers are hot and I have to be fairly professional, mobile and comfortable throughout the day, so I was glad to see you ask this since summer isn't too far away!

I typically have worn dressy knee-length bermuda shorts or skirts with a light-weight blouse or knit. I have few light cropped jackets to throw on inside or for evenings, but during the day I keep to tops that are light but have at least 2" straps for the office. I wore leather flip-flops in the past, but I'm going to stay away from them now and go to flats or a kitten-heeled pointy pump as a more professional option.

We've talked some about this in previous conversations, but I'd like to hear more about what the smart casual formula translates into for hotter weather. Where I live, we will have highs above 90 degrees for most of the summer. Extra layers don't sound terribly attractive to me during that time of year!
