Robin, answering your question about my favourite brands of cotton skirts: leaving out the ones that are not available outside Europe, I can recommend Boden (basic and not so basic A- line skirts, look for the ones that are not lined or are lined with cotton) and Talbots (very good quality, but sometimes the designes are dated, in my opinion...).

Suz: I'll be in Brantford, London, and Guelph. And yes, I see the weather has cooled off. I hope it stays that way. I really was worried it'd be 30C and sticky my whole time there.

Thanks everyone!

Angie, I'll check out those options for sure. Good thinking on the curvy shorts being more comfortable right now.

Rachylou and Adela: Do you have favourite brands for cotton skirts?

What part of Southern Ontario? Toronto? Niagara? London? What will your activities involve?

Our temperatures have not been as hot as they sometimes get as yet...but you never know when a heat wave might hit. We did have one last weekend but it cooled down considerably.

I would recommend skirts and dresses for sure. But a pair of pants and a pair of shorts would be really great additions. Even jeans (if you wear them) for cooler nights. And make sure you're prepared for air conditioning (both legs and arms).

For heat, I really like Angie's suggestion of the Old Navy linen blend pants. I have a similar pair from several years ago (mine are J. Crew) and they are workhorses for travel especially. Light, cool, but covered.

I think your best bets are bottoms with waistbands with stretch, or roomy cocoon dresses that aren't too long. Here are some bottoms you can consider. I've added a pair of denim shorts in a curvy fit because you might like the extra room - finding it more comfortable.

I agree with Ranchylou. I don't wear shorts, except on the beach. When it's hot, I can wear only cotton and linen skirts, not fitted. Every summer I buy few in different colors.

Do the bottoms have to be pants? I want skirts in hot humid weather. I'm thinking cotton or linen A-line.

I leave for Canada (Southern Ontario) next week, and their weather is hot and humid.

I don't have bottoms for hot and humid.

This petite apple needs recommendations.

Yes, I'm shoving this to the last minute, because the idea of shopping for bottoms is painful! My midsection is - well - in the way! :(

So, bottoms that are light-weight, cut for a straight figure but are forgiving of a belly, and that are likely to be Mom-approved.

I do have a couple of dresses (will send pics tomorrow to get opinions on which ones I should keep) and I'm pretty well set for tops...

But it's those bottoms...can't I just go bottom-less?
