Ummm, I much prefer the second dress over the first. The fit is perfect on you. It's not matronly to me, it's just a bit more retro and feminine. And the length is more sophisticated. The large armholes perhaps can be fixed in the first dress, though, and if you prefer it, then go for that one. I just think the SA wasn't all off on liking that second dress on you.

Thanks Manidipa! Maybe that is what is off about the second dress - it's too old for me? I am going back for the purple one today

Another vote for first over second. To begin with the colour is definitely the more flattering of the two, even though nothing wrong with the second per se. But in terms of fit, while I really like the cut of the second one (the deeper back, the gathers etc), I think the fit is off in the bust --- and just shortening the straps may not help. The first is also a way easier alteration.

Also, another extra two cents: the first looks more youthful to my eye, the second somehow a little older...? I'd wear it if I was deliberately trying to look more matronly, but there are easier and cheaper ways to achieve that!

Thanks Shannon, you have some great dresses so I am so glad you chimed in :-)

Thank you Mer! It won't be a big alteration just a little sleeve adjustment.

I also prefer the first dress! I don't think it would need too much tailoring.

Like others, I love the first dress on you Kirti - the fit, colour and style are fabulous. I'm not feeling the second one though.

kiwichik: Thanks! The second one is already expensive, even on sale so I don't want to spend on alterations. I might go try it again to see how I feel.

Love the first dress. I like the second dress but I think the length & fuss around the waist make it look too busy for your personal style. Maybe if you lost the tie & shortened it?

Thanks Jonesy. I agree although I am not sure why. The SA kept trying to convince me to get it but something stopped me.

Thanks Elle! I will definitely get the first :-)

Rae, I am not sure if it surfer-ish but I definitely am not head over heels in love with it... oh well! I will get the first one tomorrow

I had the same thoughts as Jonesy - love the first, but the second seems off... maybe a little surfer-ish, which doesn't feel like you?

Definite yay to the first one, beautiful colour, a perfect summer dress. Not loving the fit around the bust on the second, though it's a nice dress otherwise.

Kirti, I love both of these as pretty, casual, comfy summer dresses! They look lovely- and the slight creasing shows off their natural fibres. Both colours are beautiful on you - and I wouldn't worry about a tiny bit of bra-peeping-out, but the altering strap idea is good. I say YAY to both.

The sales have started in France today and I tried on two dresses today. Both are on sale, but since I don't dress shop often, I would love some help.

The first (pic 1 to 5) is a purple dress. It is cotton and fully lined. I love the colour and it seems to fit well. The only problem is that it shows my bra a little from the side (see pic 5), which means I might have to get the sleeve (or strap?) taken up a bit.

The second is a coral linen dress (pic 6 to 10). This is also lined and has belt loops and a self belt. It fits me well and comes till my knee. My only concerns are first, the low neckline (see pic 9) and second the creases. I don't mind a few creases, but is linen difficult to iron? Also, is the neckline too low?

Depending on YLF opinions, I can get one, both or neither. Thanks for helping!
