Suz, you are beaming with beauty and style!

My immediate favorites: 1 and 4 (but I am wowed by each one). I also find 6 appealing, profitably daring. The color certainly suits you, and the idea of brightening it further with a slash of gold around the neck is genius.

Outfit 2 would be very appealing to wear for me. Do you feel this way about the silhouette? I have always been attracted to breezy, expansive yet strategically cut shirts worn over a stricter bottom such as this one. It looks both put together and relax.

I also like how 5 shows off your toned arms, and how you have furthered the effect with a beautiful, streamline metallic cuff. Earrings are also a neat detail here.

Wow, this is a great collection of date night outfits! What a great idea to dress up for a date night at home. I'll have to think about this and see if there's some way we could do something similar. We do occasionally have a date night and I enjoy dressing up for it, but it's not as often as I like (coordinating schedules for babysitting can get complicated).

I agree with shevia. That tank top is working really well for you. Love the leopard skirt and the cm dress but my favourite is no 4. Fab. Are you tucking the tank or is it just cropped at the front? Great idea to dress up at home. Oh, and it does seem dressy to me. If I put on jewellery, make up or heels I count myself as dressed up.

abc, I know -- this can be really tough for us sometimes and we did not always do it when DD was very young. Actually we did when she was a baby (she went to bed) but from 3-7 it was really hard. From that age on, we would feed her, then park her in her room or living room with a movie while we enjoyed our meal. We were within shouting distance.

Another batch of steal worthy looks (I always wanna steal your shoes too). But to be honest what I am gonna take from this post is that we need to make more effort even for dinner at home. With two little ones it's hard but we can't lose ourselves and our adult relationship -- thanks for that reminder.

Ha, Aliona! That would be fun. But I have the camera set up on a tripod now. It's more reliable and doesn't put his creaky knees to risk. ;)

Karie, I, too, remember the days of fielding high-schoolers' opinions. My DD is the one who now pronounces on my outfits...often with a raised eyebrow. I like that you have two different avenues for experimentation.

Elly, you're right about the jewellery. Mr. Suz gave me a necklace for our anniversary, and I am wearing more anyway because I'm not wearing specs.

Loving the image of you dressing up for gallery openings. It's going to be a whole new world of fun for you after the move!

I know what you are saying about cooking. We usually share it, and then I will whip upstairs and change at the last minute. Mr. Suz is also a grill master but he wears an apron to do it. In answer to Janet, he sometimes dresses up and sometimes doesn't. His usual outfit is a bit dressier than some anyway -- he never wears jeans and almost always has on a button front shirt and in winter a nice sweater.

Janet, thank you. What a sweet thing to say. I definitely feel more secure in my style than I did a few years ago!

Thank you, smittie. I wish I were closer to 7 feet tall. Alas...

Anna, donnat -- I know, eh? It's a great dress.

Unfrumped, I really like the plaid dress, too. I might have to check it out! You enabler, you....

Thanks, Maneera. :)

Lisa, you are so right about the Aritzia top. It only got two outings this summer. Here's why. I wore it on an unseasonably warm May afternoon (this pic). Then, the button fell off. I had to repair it (and kept forgetting) But meanwhile, temps dropped, and it wasn't warm enough to wear it on at least two planned occasions. Then I was away, and then there was the summer of all hell breaking loose (and I was away again, and again) -- and now it is too darn hot!! But I will probably wear it again in the next few weeks.

So much for my intended statement item this summer -- I sure didn't get much use of it. But it will have some staying power and will still work next year.

Thank you, Angie -- and have fun with little Sam!!

These are all great, but #1, #3, and #4 are my favs. That chambray shirt dress looks ultra comfy and cool enough for hot weather. The white linen pants are super fab too. Is there any see-through with those? I never noticed them on J.Crew's website, but I tried on a pair at Loft back in June and there was a bit of see-through so I passed.

DH and I go for a drive just about every Sunday. We stop in small towns, unique stores, go out to lunch - that's when I like to have fun with casual fashion. At church is where I have fun with dressier clothes. For everyday wear-to-work, I usually just put stuff on and hope for the best. When I taught high school, my 10th graders were quite free flowing with their "hit or miss" opinions!

Unfrumped, I saw that dress last week at the Loft, and it is ultra adorable. It would look great with tights or leggings.

You have great style-- and I DO think you look very dressed up for home. Mr. Suz is a lucky guy : )

I'm seeing a lot more jewelry in these posts-- it is nice for a change of pace.

The SO and I never do this, and actually don't go on "dates" much either. We had a fabulous date 2 weeks ago, but that was the first one in 6 months? or more. I'm hoping that we will fit a short overnight or a day trip or two in at the end of September.

I think it is because I do most of the more "fancy" cooking and the SO is the grill master-- which doesn't lend itself to dressing up. I am looking forward to having my dining room table out of storage though, so that might change things. That and air conditioning and a lower cost of living overall! I do wear "regular" clothes when I cook, but not dressy stuff, or put on a black tee. I need an apron, as mine has been co-opted.

Honestly, the reason I make such an effort to go to as many gallery and museum openings as I do is because it makes for such a nice change of pace from my everyday life-- it is fun to go spend time enjoying art or culture (for free), having nibbles and getting to dress up a bit and display a bit of the edgier side of my style. Plus, no matter how "out there" I go with experimental outfits I never look out of place and often people figure that I'm one of the artists who is showing. It's fun.

You look about 7' tall in 4. I think that one's my fave. I also like the pleats (I think I might've mentioned that before :)).
Of course, all these outfits are great on you.

These are beautiful! Great strategy!
I haven't dond much with home date night " to date"!
I HAVE at times perhaps overdressed for movie or theater or church for the same strategy- wear my things, trial run outfits, have fun with fashion.
I started thinking that I might do a related version of your dressing up more for work at home, and translate that to after work wear, so a more casual version of home date night, but maybe still trendy or flirty. In this case, comfort would still be key, but something different that wouldn't fly at work but is fine at home.
I will try to do some pics later, but I'm in love with this LOFT dress, worn over some kind of tights or leggings ( I have no leggings!) with boots,
but can't get enough length for work.
Ordered 3 sizes including Tall and wonder if a 4th size, also Tall, might be the ticket, but it's sold out.
It might be that I will look ridiculously " young" but I'm thinking about a way I could wear it at home( errands too, of course) just for the sheer fun of it.
Suz, I think you might like this too over leggings, though the color can skew warm, you wear such a range of neutrals well and your hair color has different shades that allow that.

I think it's a really great idea to dress up for a dinner at home. We've fallen so far off of even eating together now . I'm glad to see you are still enjoying one another's company at the dinner table ! I don't think I've seen you in the Aritizia top at all this summer, have I? It's such a pretty colour combination for you.

Here's a recap of some summer "date night" outfits. Mr. Suz and I rarely go out in the evenings, except when we are travelling. But we still try to make sure we have a child-free supper once a week, and I like to get "dressed up" a bit when we do it. We also sometimes go out for lunch here in town; fewer people go out for lunch around here and we feel more private, less likely to bump into people we know. Plus, it's cheaper. ;)

The first 7 outfits were all worn at home. The last 3 were worn out for lunch or for evening events (9).

I realize that what counts as "dressed up" for me is still pretty casual to most. ;)

Most of these items are older. Only the dress in 3, the tank is 4, 5, 8 and 9, the skirt in 5 and the top in 10 are new this year.

Getting dressed up for at home dinner is one of my favourite ways to have fun with fashion. It's also a safe way to debut a silhouette that might be new to me, an item I might not know how to style. And finally, it's a way to rescue closet orphans.

How about you? What are your favourite tricks to achieve these goals?
