I think I find my joy in wardrobe curation more than in outfit creation, which has pros and cons. My outfits are definitely less inspired than others', but my preference is to put in the (enjoyable) work upfront rather than at the point of getting dressed. nemosmom, hah! I struggle with minimalism too. I'm a "sort of" minimalist--I really prefer having less stuff than I have space, but I don't always succeed at that goal. (On the mustard dress...alas, the sizing doesn't work for me, but it's definitely the kind of piece I'm looking for, just not the one.) slim cat, it comes back to that "trying too hard to make something work" thing that Irina talked about in her "ordinary" thread. It rarely works for me to just seek out a color. I know I'm somewhat influenced by what's trending at any given time. At various points, I've had a wardrobe heavy on eggplant, fuchsia, olive, chocolate brown, and maroon. I've even had touches of teal and chartreuse. I'm not particularly color-motivated, so I suspect it will come down to finding a particular item that speaks to me at a particular time and then continuing to build my wardrobe with the new piece in place. In an ideal world, that would be a print that incorporates a new color with my current ones to start the transition. Irina, my son is a way better stylist than me, which is amazing considering that he spent most of middle school wearing the same blue puffer vest and track pants every day. Everything he puts on now looks effortlessly cool. shevia, I used to have a big, chunky cardigan in mustard yellow that I loved.  (I actually still have it, but it's been relegated to occasional loungewear, since it's very worn and too thick for any more than a couple days a year here...it's now a "winter morning before getting dressed" sort of thing.) rachylou, LOL. Janet, I get the shopping urges too, and sometimes I give into it, but the last couple of times we moved, coupled with cleaning out my mom's house after she passed away, really nipped it in the bud. It's actually a great feeling to sort and pack the things you love the most, but then there's all the other stuff. I've been working on not acquiring as much of that, and being aware of when someone once loved or useful falls into that category. Star, I'm glad to hear it. I have found my approach is getting simpler over time, but some of that may be the move to a more mild climate. Pieces not featured in the current capsule are still in my closet, just on a lower rack or tucked into a linen storage bag for safekeeping. For me, making seasonal capsules is about staving off boredom and reducing daily decision fatigue rather than about storage space. And I do occasionally pull from outside the capsule--it's just a rarity.  ChristeIJ, I'm lucky to have a lifestyle that allows me to wear less-tailored, more casual pieces. Sal,  I always wonder if my friends without kids have any idea how uncool they are without someone there to tell them, or if they just get to live the "ignorance is bliss" life. Joy, I could do the same with the skirt and top, and I have three sleeveless black dresses, although they're all different (to me, at least.) I am taking advantage of some of my favorite colors being in retail right now, but I know I'll have to start thinking about how to integrate other colors in a way that works with my preferred pace of purchasing (slow). Katerina, I was wearing those sandals as an essential last summer, but having another less "interesting" pair this year has really pushed them into statement territory for me. With those and a mask, I kind of feel like a post-apocalyptic badass. Irina, honestly, I'm in a black dress or jeans and a "boring" top 75% of the time.
