I'm sure you look fabulous in any swimsuit, so be fussy and buy the one that you love the most. I swim at the beach each week (even in winter) and have noticed that higher cut bottoms are fashionable.

Bee,I am sorry I am so slow to respond. My meter is undergoing a change. It is more like a patch. It sticks out and shows under most things that fit. The transmitter on my newer version is not as strong as the one on the discontinued version. I could wear the patch on the back of my upper arm but gettin readings would probably be difficult wearing sleeves and coats. I really need to sleep with my meter even with the patch on my stomach to get a reading. It is supposed to reach 20 feet but does not.

I like the rash guards from Lands End sized up a size as long sleeved tops. They are polyester so there is that. Radiant Navy clashes with their Deep Sea Navy, a more classic navy, so I am still looking for a simple tank top. The rash guards are helpful if you get cold, I have heard, but have not tested it. Since our hot tube stopped working I have not worn a swim suit. DH does not swim at all. He has heavy bones and sinks. He is uneasy on a cruise. The transfer to the small tender boats that take you from ship to shore is hard. The ship people have to take what they can get and have no control so they say. They have discouraged us from taking any more cruises.

You’ve all found some nice swimwear! I’m loving some of the new bathing suit options that I’ve seen this year. Personally I prefer a tankini with board shorts or a skirted bottom. Since my preferred water activities are kayaking, boogie boarding, and snorkeling, I buy swimwear slightly more for function than fashion. My favorite swimwear, purchased this year, is from LL Bean and Eddie Bauer.

What a great selection! Particularly like nr7, it has an interesting cut and love the colour.

I think swimsuits are a very personal choice as one wants to feel comfortable when swimming but also when sunbathing. I am 46 and enjoy swimming outdoors, preferably not in the pools due to the chemicals.

As I am always running cold, I am now looking for a long sleeves swimsuit (any recommendations?).

Great suits, everyone! I found these at a Brazilian online retailer that usually sells clothes from older collections at discount prices. Both suits in photo #1 are from Agua Doce and the one in photo #2 are from Bumbum.
My apartment in Brazil just got listed for rent and possible sale, so I need to find a new address to have my non-international orders delivered.

I bought two new suits for my Mexico trip this year and found them perfect for two different settings; in the ocean and by the pool. The little skirt made me more comfortable sitting and lounging, and the Reebok one piece felt sleek and secure when snorkeling.

The tankini is way too much fabric for lap swimming, so it won't get much wear and will last forever, I hope. The Reebok is my second and holds up to chlorine really well. One piece suits are hard to fit because I'm much larger up top than on the bottom. I used to be a true hourglass but now I am a broad shouldered triangle, heh.

Swimoutlet.com is my favorite shopping site. Very easy to order and return and they carry EVERYTHING.

Star, yes! Where we vacationed in March (Cabo San Lucas) I would have stood out way more in an “unobtrusive” one piece than a bikini, even at 57 years old! So a bikini it was!

All those swimwear items look really fabulous! I love the cut-away one piece look, unfortunately I do not have a waist to wear one but if I did I definitely would. I have a simple black one piece that has interesting cut-out details under the bust. However where I live, a European tourist sea holiday destination, absolutely nobody wears one pieces. So I am trying to not draw attention to myself in a one piece and it is having the opposite effect, ha-ha. Last year for the first time in 20 years I put on a bikini and blended in just fine

I’m also in my 50s and have totally different flattery priorities and body type from you, but I surprisingly had great success this year in refreshing my very old swimsuit collection.

I like one-pieces for wearing at home (we have a pool), with friends to community pools, or to a local beach. But I also like to have a couple of bikinis for tropical vacations, and I found one this year that I liked so well I bought in two different color/prints.

For one-pieces I’m always looking for something a little different from what it seems like is the default for my age group — black or florals. I found this one-shoulder suit that really works surprisingly well for me, and a sporty-sexy scuba-style suit. I’m a challenging fit — short in the torso, wide hips and a 30G bra size, so many suits just don’t work. I feel really lucky I was able to find unique suits that work for me!

I think some of the keys to successful swimwear shopping are: 1) trying as many options as you can stand, 2) keeping your mind open, and 3) then once you find what really works for you, milk it!

I swim about 3 miles a week, and swear by the Pembrooke crinkle suits. They do not fade! I replaced 2 very old ones though cause the liners got really worn.

I wear a rashguard over, cause the pool is a bit colder than I'd like.

Hi Jenni! I’m not a fan of high cut legs either. My hip bones tend to protrude quite a bit and a with a high cut, the seem either sits right above them or directly on top of them, which can be very uncomfortable.

It’s winter down in my home country as well, although with the exception of the south, the weather is quite mild and you will see people sunbathing all year round. I’ve never been much of a beachgoer, as my skin tends to burn rather than tan.

I have been going for an evening swim almost daily however, as the exercise will help me regain some muscle.

Excellent that you can put on a bathing suit again!
Many of us here are quite a lot older than you and looking for more coverage I would think. I can’t offer much opinion on these, they are cut too high in the legs for me. And it’s the *winter* solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere!

Joy, I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was 14 and I’m still doing finger pricks. I heard there are patches now that measure your blood glucose. Is your meter like a patch or more like a machine?

Thanks Sal! I think no matter what size or age, everyone has parts they prefer to highlight and others they’d rather cover. Most of my friends think I’m crazy to prefer a one-piece at 36 and 45kg (under 100lbs) but I’ve preferred them since I was a kid, long before e I cared what people thought about my body.

Skinny people still get celulite and flacid skin, especially after almost two years without leaving the house. I have muscle wastage that will take me years to recover. But this is the first time in almost a decade that I put on a bathing suit (I only had two as well until this month) much less let myself be photographed in one. So I’ve made major progress in that regard and I’m really enjoying having a pool at home for the first time since I was 7.

I love all these choices Bee. Have fun with a swimsuit I always think - whatever makes you feel at your best.

I have only two at the moment - one is very boring and I used it for lane swimming. The other is the cobalt one below.

I am considering another - maybe the black one here.

I am in my 50s so am looking for different things now. I need something with bust support but that is still a bit sporty and fun.

It sounds like you have figured out what suit is best on you. My suit is old and I need I tankini that allows access to my stomach for medication and getting meter readings. I am considering a second suit. It the one I have does not get much use, as DH does not swim. I used a suit most when my sons were little, but now they are adults.
I do have a one piece but it is not the best choice for me. I have to avoid any Tummy Control products as they push on my glucose meter. That said I will appreciate any clues as to where I can get none tummy control nylon stockings. Even the cheap ones push on my stomach too much.

Since yesterday (or today, depending on where you live) was the first day of summer and I haven’t seen a swimwear thread yet, I figured I’d start one myself. Please forgive me if things aren’t quite right with the photos, I’m still figuring out how everything works on this site and my anxiety medication often makes me a bit slow or forgetful. I posted a few items I own but I bought them so long ago I can’t remember where they’re from and managed to find the links that show items that are very “me” but have long since sold out. Anyway, this is just to get the thread started and then the rest of you can do things the right way and hopefully I’ll learn from that..

Photos 1 - 3 are of a suit I bought from Shein. I decided to get a small instread of an extra small, on a whim and it paid off. It was a bit tight around my chest (I’m a 32c) but taking the pasties out (calling them pads wouldn’t describe them accurately) helped a lot. As a Brazilian I’m not a fan of full-coverage bottoms, and these seemed especially full and a bit loose. I’m not basing my comparison on thong/ string bottoms since I’m not a fan of those either. I like that they weren’t high cut and didn’t expose my pointy hip bones, though.

Photo # 4 also Shein but hasn’t arrived yet. It’s backless and low cut yet covers my belly button. Very “me”

Photo # 5 was a pre-worn gift. Like “0h, what a cute suit”
“You should take it. I don’t like how it fits me”
“Ok, thanks!”

Photo # 6 is Victoria’s Secret Swim. an example of the cut I like on my bottoms.

Photo # 7 Is also very “me”. By a Brazilian brand called Agua Doce. Unfortunately sold out.

Found # 8 online listed under multiple retailers but no brand mentioned. I love that ruching on the bottoms. It makes it look like you have a bum even if you don’t. (And I definitely don’t). This one has “me” written all over it.
