Yes I am pretty much resigned these days to ordering nearly everything online and returning what I can in the store. As my local stores carry less and less petites but still have "online exclusives" -- I hate those two words, though I appreciate the marketing people that thought them up.

Luckily, I know from experience that BR and AT are fairly consistent in their sizing. I really hope they never change that! Jcrew is much less so, it's always a crap shoot.

That said BR lately has seemed to have some vanity size creep.. yeah I lost some weight recently but not that much... I am more and more fitting in the XSP rather than SP's. That applies to ON and GAP as well. AT and loft however seem steadily consistent. Both brands fit me really well-- AT for tops / jackets, Loft for pants, because I'm an inverted triangle with narrow hips and chicken legs.

As for WHBM, it's totally hit or miss for me. I do have a few cherished favorite petites from them, but at the cost of many many many items that just didn't work. Not so much fit, but fabric/ quality. Lots of polyester or synthetic or whatever that I couldn't get off my body fast enough, it felt awful. I do not have a WHBM close to me, so this is one store I'm super careful about ordering from, as I would have to return to the post office.

AT was my go to but my local store doesn't seem to stock many options in suiting and whatever I have tried has been disappointing. I'll have to order a bunch from AT and WHBM.

I'm broad shouldered and petite, but not hippy (I'm an inverted triangle/ apple). For jackets, I've had the best luck at Ann Taylor. Come to think of it, I think about 80% of my jackets are currently from there....

Angie, not sure what a square shoulder is. In my case I would be an hourglass from the front but not from the side because of my mid-section. My hip-bones with the added love handles make me pretty broad at the hip but my bottom is flat. I am confusing myself as I type this ... I should probably just post a photo.

Shoulders are decidedly wide. Plus I put on bicep muscle very easily. I ripped my Everlane slim fit silk shirt in the arm in just a few months.

Broad shouldered pear shaped body types make little sense to me Lisa, and Elpgal. Perhaps you have square shoulders? Or you are not pear shaped?

Wow, blast from the past - Petite Sophisticate! When I worked in public accounting I wore suits and got a few of them from there. I had forgotten there used to be a store just for us petites!

Thanks for the recommendations.

Janet, the last time I interviewed, I had a suit from Petite Sophisticate! I haven't had the need to wear a suit since that time

Oh gosh, my experience is years in the past, but I used to have a lot of success with Tahari. Not sure if their cuts have changed since then, but I have some similar challenges (short waisted, big bust, wide hips). Blazers with stretch are a godsend.

I struggle with blazers often. I have broad shoulders naturally and lift weights, which has made my back larger too! I have found ponte materials often work well because they have a bit of give. WHBM ponte blazers in my usual size work for me. I own 3, yes 3 of the same blazer in different colors my Vince Camuto plus another blazer in a different style. Needless to say I'm a fan. Again I take my usual size. I have also had good luck with Brooks Brothers blazers in the past. At a lower price point, sometimes Target is ok for me, just the sleeves are too long so I roll or cuff them up.

I have the same broad shoulders, but am long through the torso. I've found WHBM that almost everything runs short there, plus they have petites too. I do have one blazer from there and like the stretch in it so I don't feel too claustrophobic. I'm sure you'll get some good input here.

Sorry for another woe is me post but can somebody school me on what I should be looking for in a suit jacket.

Fit challenges - broad shoulders, short waisted, wide-hipped and petite.

Anything I buy makes me look very blocky.

I am ok with tailoring but wanted to get your input on what brands/styles might be a good starting point.
