Hm, I'm not having much luck searching online. All the boleros and cropped jackets I'm seeing have slim, fitted sleeves, and I really think I need the wide kimono-like sleeves to balance the skirt. I think I'm going to go try to hit some stores this weekend... I'm thinking H&M or Zara might have something. Went to Anthro yesterday and did not have any luck.

That's a fab skirt Diana! It sounds like you're already sorted, and I don't have any advice anyway, but I can't wait to see your finished look.

I agree, Angie, and now that I think about it it's actually a very similar shape to the white shirt in the sartorialist snap above... Now if only I could find a similar shape! Most kimono jackets are too long for me.

I love the kimono style capelet with it. It's the perfect shape - and no need to tuck it in. I vote same shape in a festive colour.

Hm, Inge, sequined sweater is a good idea. That particular one is too long though (22" is hipbone length on me, and I think if I don't want to tuck it that is as long as it could go), and I don't wear turtlenecks.

Parkmommychic, that might also work. I am hesitant to buy a crisp shirt though as those are really not my thing (plus I hate to iron!) and I worry it would become an orphan.

I also just remembered I have this Sartorialist photo saved on my computer. Not sure whether I could pull it off though (or where to find a blouse like that). I wonder if a belt like hers would stay over my skirt though - it might make the waistband look less wide.

Perhaps something like the sequined cashmere turtleneck in the YLF store, Diana?
http://youlookfab.com/store/20.....urtleneck/

So I have a few semi-formal or nice-casual type of holiday events to go to (and one cocktail party, but I'm all set for that) and I'd like to get some more wear out of my Allsaints wool bubble skirt. I am a little stumped for festive tops to wear with it though. I am pretty sure I will have to buy something, as I just purged both of my sparkly tops (a gold/black one that was itchy and looked a little too tight, and a green tank with sequin trim that kept rolling up).

Some caveats: the skirt has a high and slightly too wide (for me) waist so I don't love to tuck into it as the proportions make me look rather unbalanced (poufy skirt + high waist + pear shape = top half looks ridiculously small). However, it also gets voluminous FAST so a top that's too long and untucked won't work either. I can do a tucked inner layer with a jacket over it (or something voluminous over like the capelet in the picture). I do have a red camisole with a burnout pattern that I can wear with a jacket but I might freeze as it's very thin. Otherwise, maybe a banded top of some sort?

I could just do the capelet look like in the picture below but it reads more autumn and less holiday to me! I also have various black options but that is reading too goth for the holidays to me.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of tops to pair with this skirt? Bonus if said top will also work with black trousers!
