ETA - I see you have taken them down already! Boo...spoiling the fun. (-:

I think you definitely need to try some new glasses. The ones you have appear to be too wide for you face, which makes me wonder if your face might be narrow, like mine (mine is longer than yours, though, I think). I also wonder if a less square pair would open up your eyes more. Check out this pair that I have (see pic - hopefully you can see more than just my stomach which is all I can see in the preview!). They don't go outside the lines of my face and are dip down a tiny bit so they aren't perfectly rectangular, which I think makes them a little softer.

I think wearing eye makeup with glasses is essential to bring out your eyes from behind the frames. At least a little liner on the top lash line and some mascara?

Your hair actually seems very cute to me. If you want a change, I think maybe a long bob that is longer in the front and maybe asymmetrical would be fun? I would avoid bangs, though, because your forehead is nicely balanced (unlike mine, ha). I wouldn't dye it. The color is wonderful and shiny! And your eyebrows are gorgeous. Maybe just a tiny cleanup. Don't shrink them down. They really frame your face nicely.

Thank you everyone for the kind words! I already feel much better (and a bit inspired haha). Definitely take into consideration the 'long bob' - I trust my hairdresser so I'll put those ideas past her.

Thanks again!!

You are quite beautiful the way you are, but I think you would look stunning in a long bob too Katie Holmes has had some cute ones (with and without bangs) and you seem to have a somewhat similar hair type.

I think having a little something on your lips would help balance the plastic frames nicely, I am super in love with Revlon's lip stain at the moment!

Have you tried Acuvue Oasys lens at all? I have sensitive eyes, but I found I can wear those lenses for a few hours since they breathe really well.

Don't forget to post some pictures when you're done!!!

I agree with the others. A long bob could be a nice stepping stone to even shorter cuts down the road. I think gwenyth Paltrow and Jessica alba are sporting long bobs right now if you want some inspiration.

I don't wear glasses so I'm not much help there. There are some nice tutorials on YouTube though for make up with glasses. I know Michelle phan has one and hers are always helpful.

Good luck!

OK, I can't directly answer either the hairstyle or frames question, but I can ask another question to get you started.

When you feel most like yourself (content, relaxed, confident), what are you doing? Where are you when you feel like that? Think of words that describe yourself when you feel best-- make a list. Then take that list, and see if there are any styles that come to mind when you think of those words.

I know, it sounds ridiculous. But we want the best, truest version of you!

You have ENORMOUS eyes in an elfin face! You're so lucky. I agree that your glasses seem to be a bit on the large side for your face shape and your delicate features. I'm a specs wearer as well and definitely not eligible for lasering. So... time for tough love. Firstly, make peace with your eyes and glasses. You have beautiful eyes and wearing (the right) glasses might actually attract more attention to your eyes! Secondly, your glasses are too wide and too "heavy" for your face. Try something in a lighter/soft metallic colour. Thirdly, PLEASE don't lop off your gorgeous hair (I'm so jealous; your hair is absolutely lustrous). One of your profile photos shows a hair layer at shoulder level and it really does something for you. If you want to cut it, why don’t you try one of the fashionable “long bobs”. Smile - you’re beautiful and glasses can't ever take that away from you!

Wow, you can't imagine how well I understand you. Stuck with glasses, no possibility of wearing contacts (they hurt my eyes too and my doctor says I just can't wear them) and my doctor doesn't want me to get an operation neither because he thinks it might be too risky. I may go through the intervention in some years, but right now there are other economic priorities we need to face so I know I'll have to wear glasses for at least a few more years.

1) First thing I want you to know: YOU LOOK GOOD IN GLASSES

Some people just don't. And some people you think they do because you've always seen them with glasses, but they actually would look better without them. I've never seen you before, so I'm totally objective when I say that they suit your face. I look good in glasses too. I mean, I still like myself better when I don't wear them, but I think the suit my face overall -I've got friends who look much worse with glasses that without them.

2) You have an oval/oblong face, just like I do, with thick eyebrows, just like I do lol We are not alike though, I don't want you to think you have a siamese sister somewhere in this big big world. I think Oval long faces look better with glasses because they cut the vertical line and widen a bit the face, which in your case complements your features. I'd still try a narrower pair of glasses, if possible, though.

3) I've worn pixie cuts, long hair, wavy, straight, blunt fringe, escalated fringe, no fringe, long fringe, spare fringe, short bob, long bob, mid-length bob, Amelie bob... you name it. Some I like more, some I like less, but what totally didn't work for me was the super short & escalated fringe. It made my face look just too long. But I've liked myself with the bobs, the pixie cut or the longer hair, and people have always said they look nice on me, I hope they were not lying! I have a harder to manage hair than you do though, because it's wavy but fine and weightless, so it doesn't hold any do too well.

4) Fringes are fun but harder to wear if you wear glasses and have thick eyebrows. Why? Because they melt with the whole thing when the fringe grows and it's a bit too edgy. I've repeated the fringe trend a couple of times though, because I like the way it looks on me and makes the haircut more interesting. You could try that if you dare

5) I have no clue about make up, but I'm waiting for someone to help us here, because I'm as clueless as you are!

6) I'll post some photos of myself so you can see my haircut history. I don't normally do this, but hope it helps you! (I'm going to remove them after some hours tough :)) Some of them are two, three years old, and I've also lost some weight, my face is slimmer now. The last one is more or less what I have now, although I escalated it a couple of weeks ago. I do my eyebrows at one of those special places from time to time, this is not their original shape.

7) I'm not a freak that takes photos of herself every five minutes, I just have a tendency to take self-portraits to practice with my camera (REMOVED THEM ALREADY)

Hi Hame! :-)
Louise posted some great links and I agree that your glasses look a bit large for your face.
Short hair would put focus on your lovely large eyes. You can find sites online with all kinds of short hairstyles. If you do want it cut make sure to take a pic of the cut you want to show the stylist.
You might like to try some highlights which not only will brighten your look but will give body to the hair.
The person with 'perfect' features is a rare bird so forget the chin/forehead/face shape business and do what you want - it's your hair. Best wishes!
ps I think you have lovely brows but if you decide to have anything done to them just say you want them shaped - that should remove excess hairs but still leave your brows full. And as for makeup with glasses - I know gals who wear glasses and they don't do anything special or out of the ordinary with their eye makeup. Subtle is something to keep in mind when using any makeup - hope this helps.

Hi Hame and welcome to the forum.
Our own darling Angie is a specs wearer and many forum members too and they all look fab. I'm not a glasses expert but perhaps you need some new glasses if you hate them? Here's a couple of Angie's blog posts to help you out and don't worry we'll get you sorted http://youlookfab.com/2006/04/.....lar-specs/

Hi YLF forum, welcome to my completely honest post.

I'm 19, i've had to wear glasses 24/7 since about the age of 8. I have always - to put it bluntly - hated them. They've made me feel ugly, unattractive and ostracised on many occasions. Add in the mix three years of braces ...

Last year (my latest optometrist appointment) only one of my eyes had worsened by a fraction of an amount, which was great news considering for most of my life they'd doubled in severity each year, and I got it into my head that I was probably eligible for laser eye surgery in mid 2011 as it seemed my eyes weren't getting worse. I tried to not get my hopes up too much. I was not successful in this.
In actual fact, your eyes need to be stable for two years, so I've really crashed and become very angry/upset about it.

I thought I might take some of Angie's advice and consider a new haircut. Here's me side/front on with glasses on/off hair up/down.
I've been tossing around the idea of a short haircut for a few years now, but i'm not sure if i can pull it off/have the guts to. also I don't have a strong jaw line :(

http://oi52.tinypic.com/25z2wt5.jpg

Side notes:
- I've tried contacts, both soft and hard ones. They're incredibly annoying and sometimes painful, so I now only wear them when i'm going out.
- my hair dries naturally pretty much as it is in the photos
- minimum effort hairstyles are prized! I don't own a straightener, only a hairdryer,
- i've never dyed it, any recommendations?

If anyone has any other comments on how to look great in glasses (seeing as im stuck with them), completely welcome. Especially make up? I've never worn it with glasses. I'm going to ask mum about getting my eyebrows done too.

P.S (sorry for the length!) what face shape do i have?

Massive thank you to everyone who has read this, especially those who've replied!!
