Alecia that is a great looking dress on you! I like the shoes you have paired it with too. I would add some chunky earrings or a big necklace to put the proverbial cherry on top!!

I agree with what the others have said...not too sweet but classic. If experimenting with belts on this dress, you might try a studded one for more edge. I couldn't tell for sure from the photo but does the dress have lace or sheer sleeves? Is it a subtle pattern? The black color keeps the sweetness tamed to me.

Alecia, I don't think you dress overly sweet. Dress is a great purchase, it has so much potential for different combinations, me likey!

I really like this outfit, Alecia! I've been looking for a more structured shirt dress similar to the one you're wearing. I don't think it's overly sweet because it does look very crisp and structured. I like the idea of adding a different belt to it. You could play around with all sorts of belts--patent, woven/"straw" belts. Have you thought about adding some brightly colored shoes as well? Also, a white denim jacket would look great, as per Cciele's suggestion.

I want to chime in that I also don't think your style is overly sweet. I would describe your look more as classic and feminine.

The outfit you posted fits in with that classic/feminine look pretty well, to my mind. You look great! Very flattering. It doesn't look particularly edgy to me, but maybe it is still edgy FOR YOU, and that's what matters.

I don't see your style as overly sweet either. I think you always look modern and polished and you wear colors so well. I really like the way you styled this dress and you look very sleek in black.

I also don't think you dress overly sweetly (for that, I think of Laura Ashley, flowers and frills, etc.). You have a classic, impeccable style.

Good idea for adding a more heavy heel to the dress. Here are some more ideas:
- Boyfriend blazer, with sleeves rolled up
- Denim jacket
- Heeled booties
- Leather cuff bracelet
- Menswear-type vest

I can't say I have noticed the overly sweety style that you mention, everything I have seen so far has been really great on you. This outfit is nice, the dress is one of those classic pieces that can be worn with so many things, The shoes are not too girl either. What about trying a different colour belt and cami, I can see you in a vivid red or something like that. Again I am a bit cautious of giving advice still, I am not sure I know enough yet! Hope that helps anyway. And you have great legs

I've been thinking about my style goals - sophisticated, edgy, impeccable - lately. I'm not sure that I capture any of them just yet. Still working on it. But I think I often forgo a bit of edge so I'm trying to make a point of adding some to my outfits. (Ok, as edgy as I can get, which probably isn't very edgy. Edgy for me.) I think my outfits can be cloyingly sweet sometimes - like the fashion equivalent of an overly flowery perfume. Ugh. So trying to pair these things with a touch less feminine.

Here's one attempt: http://i508.photobucket.com/al.....0_9376.jpg

The dress is sweet. The shoes bring a little more heft. Did I actually do what I was seeking to do?
