Congrats on the new house!! :D

As for dominant season, totally buy for it. I know everyone is clearancing out winter stuff in January, and I snap up some nice refresher pieces. And, being a proud member of Team Wear, they see said wear before the month (sometimes week!) is out.

Because, you know, 3-4 more months of winter for me. We always found it annoying that if you lost a glove or mitten in January you were very hard pressed to find another pair in stores. And it is still snowing every day!! *shakes fist at fashion gods*

Although, to be honest, summer comes so late here, I tend to get summer stuff on the first round of reductions. I wish I had Angie's ability to know what I need ahead of time, but I need to actually wear my clothes before I know what I want/need. And summer doesn't come here until late May or June.

Joy, you're right, winter can sneak up on you here, even in the warmer parts - although last winter was unseasonably warm (and dry, thus the drought). I don't think I wore half my winter stuff more than once or twice.

Mo, I'm in San Jose now, so a bit south of Fremont, but probably similar in temps. Fremont can get mighty toasty in the summers - I used to work over there.

Kellygirl, I'm going to try that strategy on my DH as well - no, honey, half of it is going back, I swear...

Gigi, I've always been a 'try on everything' person so I guess this is the online equivalent. Even with having to deal with returns I think it's better, if the credit card bill doesn't make you blanch - especially when stuff is on clearance or flash sale, you might miss out on the color or size that works if you have to try to exchange. Plus a lot of places give you free shipping when you order over x amount.

I definitely think now is the time to buy, with all the sales on! I'm like you in that I order way more than I will need so that I can try everything on and compare.

Lol! Welcome back to the South Bay! Spring/summer is definitely our dominant season. I've been doing some damage on the summer sales too. Unfortunately all of my orders are coming in piece by piece so it looks worse than it actually is (or so I tell DH.) You will be wearing this stuff through September/October so enjoy!

Sounds smart to buy for your temps now instead of fall items. I lived in Fremont in my school years and we could get some warm summers. Are you further south?

If you need high summer things and can find what you want, at least there should be some really good sales. DDIL went to college in Berkeley and was freezing in the winter. You may have colder winters than you are used to too. Save some for NAS.

As I mentioned, we moved a couple of weeks ago (new house, still so exciting!) and even though it's only 30-45 minutes from where we were before, thanks to Bay Area microclimates it's a good bit warmer. I have quickly realized that my high summer capsule is mighty thin. Last year after I lost weight I got rid of most of my hot-weather clothes and didn't bother to replace them, because before I could get by with only a few days worth. Not so down here in the South Bay, where there's less fog and more 90+ degree days. This issue has been exacerbated by the moving-related stress-eating and the "the kitchen is packed" takeout over the last few weeks, so I'm up about 5 pounds and the smallest of my summer clothes don't fit me right now. I've got some really casual shorts and tank tops and some summer dresses, but not a lot of things that feel "smart casual" as opposed to weekend casual. And although I don't work in an office I do have to meet with people occasionally, and I like to make a distinction between work days and weekends even when I work at home.

I hemmed and hawed about buying summer clothes when it's already July, but to be honest it will probably be one of my dominant seasons now. And the nice thing about buying at the end of the retail season is that there are lots of sales and many things are on crazy discount. In the last week I've ordered nearly $500 of shorts, crops, and summer tops, as well as one pair of sandals, from Nordstrom, AT and Loft. Of course, I don't expect to keep it all - I can't really afford to keep it all! - but this way I get to try on everything and see what works.

So this is the opposite of no-buy July - buy-it-all July? - and I am definitely out of the running for NAS. Depending on how much I keep, I'll be able to afford fall clothes about, oh, Christmas. Will keep y'all posted with K/R as items arrive.
