It was a very welcome and relaxing getaway — three days was actually really sufficient to make us feel like we got a good taste of resort life, while still fitting into a busy time! </p> <p>Jamie got a little sunburnt (as did our friends — they all hung out at the swim-up bar more than I did, as I was nursing a cold!), but he tans quickly afterward. I’m much more careful with the sun — skin cancer is a thing in my family. </p> <p>Jessikams, we went to a resort in Cabo San Lucas that we’ve gone to several times before. It’s pricey so we could mostly only justify it during the years when my husband’s business was going gangbusters. He’s now aiming for full retirement next year! In the before times it was a nonstop flight from BWI but now we have to fly through DFW. Not bad, but flights are definitely rarer and more expensive than a few years ago — I found the same thing when I flew to Vegas to go to Death Valley last month. </p> <p>The resort was not full, so they gave us a free upgrade to one of the Oceanside casitas, which is what you see in the pics. Crazy nice. Each suite/casita has its own plunge pool and fire pit, and we had our own private hammock (I love a hammock!) and little segment of beach. I watched the sunrise every morning and walked up the beach each day. Normally I walk out of the resort and into the adjacent fancy neighborhood, where I wander the hills and admire the huge homes, but with a cold I wasn’t feeling the long, vigorous walks. This is happening with our kitchen renovation — new kitchen and laundry room leads to new tile flooring through half of the first floor, leads to refinishing the hardwood floors in the adjacent living/dining rooms. Which also means a new treatment for the old dark brick fireplace, and new treatment for railings on stairs and loft, and now I want a new front door too! It was a brief but satisfying trip, with brilliant weather, stellar company, great food and drink, a wonderful spa session, and poolside relaxation. </p> <p>My new “resort” swimwear capsule worked out very well. I felt about as good as a soft-bodied, middle-aged, blindingly-white-skinned woman can feel amongst the young and slim and tanned instagram ladies, LOL. In seriousness, I did feel happy enough in my new bikinis. I was realizing I may be due for a new set of coverups at this point — old favorites seemed a little shabby once I tried wearing them with my new suits. I defaulted to one patterned pareo, and think I need to buy another at some point. </p> <p>My other new items, the sandals and the Zara pants, also worked out very well. My old straw tote worked well, but is starting to show signs of wear — stretching out a bit near where the straps attach to the bag. It’s hard to find a good woven straw tote that has a zip close, isn’t stiff or bulky, and isn’t scratchy with rough edges that snag on clothes! </p> <p>There is another item I decided I want before the next trip like this — one of those clips that holds your hat on your bag, so you don’t have to cram a hat into a suitcase or tote, or carry it separately. If anyone has one and recommends a specific brand, let me know!</p> <p>ETA pics </p>
