I like a closed toe, closed heel when others feel springy and it's still too cold for me, yet for sandals. Also search for "d'orsay" flats. Those are closed toe closed heel and a beach party in the middle.

Thank you for starting this thread as this is the same delema I have been facing. I try to wear loafers, oxfords etc but the truth is that I still want to wear socks, not just nylons. I've been trying light colored boots and that seems to be working for now.

I totally feel your pain. I am always stumped at this time of year with my footwear. I tend to wear sandals or boots. Closed in slip on shoes such as flats seem to look weird on me and I have a hard time keeping them on my feet. I have a low volume foot with a small bunion and skinny heels, sounds enticing doesn't it haha. ?
I have one pair of olive green lace up oxfords and thats about it. I did see these http://www.lordandtaylor.com/w.....site_referat at Lord and Taylor and have been searching for them in black in a size 7 but they proved to be elusive. I tried on the 7.5 and it was comfortable but a tad too big. They were soft and bendy which is what I liked in addition to having a higher vamp than a ballet flat. In the meantime I am wearing some cognac booties and rolling my pants a little.

I'm excited to bust out my 3 fussier booties & one pair of tall boots that I didn't want to risk in the snow/slush, now that the sidewalks are *almost* clear (one side of the street still has dangerous puddles). Other than that, I'm looking forward to trying out oxfords & other full-coverage flats for spring. This is my first northern spring in years though, so I don't have much advice. I hope you figure out a solution!

Early spring, I swap out my cashmere knee socks for thin, lightweight, breathable ankle socks, ones that don't go up too high so they are lower than the boot shaft. Basically they are athletic socks, same ones I wear with running sneakers; I have them in white and in black. The black are particularly good for wearing with black footwear. I find this one simple wardrobe tweak makes a huge difference. This also enables me to roll my pants if it warms up enough during the day to bare a hint of ankle. I'll also start opting for my pointy-toed pleather booties which are lighter in weight and not so clunky. Those have a high enough shaft that the ankle socks don't show at all.

With a dress I'll either wear tall boots sans hose/tights, or booties with ankle socks hidden underneath.

When it heats up a little bit more, then it's loafers or oxfords or ballet flats or pumps without socks. But, I don't get much use out of them because it's not too long after that it's time to bring out the sandals.

Oooh! I really like those Fly Londons, Lisa. I wish their shoes fit me --they are just "off" in size somehow (all those I have tried). I have the same problem with other British shoes, alas...

I wear a lot of closed-toe flats and wedges too. Plus the same booties I've been wearing all winter, only I get to alternate them with flats instead of knee-high boots for a change. Since I wear skirts/dresses more than pants and don't wear sheer hose much because it always seems fussy, I end up wearing black tights or leggings a lot pretty far into spring and need shoes that look okay with them. Which basically means a rotating array of black shoes, a few cognac pairs, and a few other dark neutrals that are easier to find in flats than boots, like leopard and burgundy.

Lisa, I really like the shoes you ordered!

I ordered these today - in black. If you had told me even 5 years ago that I'd be buying Fly London shoes I would have declared you crazy. I always thought of them as having that kooky artsy Euro look that is NOT what I am after. Joke's on me. They are stupidly comfortable, and if I say that they are 10 times cuter on that in this picture, do I sound defensive? I am looking for covered toe, ankle strap shoes. I would have loved a higher wedge, but what can you do? Everything out there is peep-toe, which I can't do. Anyways - I'm on the mission from **** to find shoes - and here is option #1.

Still wearing my booties, much like Suz, but I'm trying to incorporate some Spring colors in my clothing. For example, I wore a Spring green button down underneath my grey cashmere crew neck sweater today and added a white down vest! Ha ha! It was freezing outside! Tomorrow we may get a break, it's supposedly going up to to 60's (Fahrenheit). I can hardly believe it!

I like wearing close toe shoes to work on certain days. It depends where I am going, so I wear them year round, but I like Oxfords and Ballet Flats if I can find any that feel good on my feet. They work nicely for transitional weather, but my booties are the best.

No good ideas but I feel your pain. I did start wearing oxfords with nude knee-highs a few weeks ago and found I was too cold! Just the hose-weight material was too thin and I missed my socks or thicker tights, still. It actually got colder indoors at work as the weather warmed up outside. I don't do well with really light footwear, cream or white, but have been looking for "spring booties" that somehow look lighter than winter black and dark red. Did not find what I wanted this year yet or maybe not this year at all, but it is a category I would enjoy. Or gray trouses with oxfords and thin tonal socks, and don't worry about fashion do's and don't's. Or a lighter tights look than my typical black tights look-trying some things with tonal grays for skirt, tights and shoes with spring-colored sweaters.

I have the same concern about Spring shoes: I hate having cold feet, but don't want to look clunky-footed, either, so thanks for raising the subject, and thanks to Janet for the oxford suggestion--I love that idea! Oxfords can be a little flat for me sometimes, though, so now I'm looking for some lace-ups with a block heel. Wish me luck!

Like Suz and many others, the window for closed toe spring shoes is pretty narrow where I live. I wear sneakers (the fashion kind) and oxfords when the temps are low but the ground is bare, because low vamp shoes make my feet too cold. I also enjoy wearing light colored booties on this time of the year. A pair of loafers would be great, too. Later on, I'll wear pumps occasionally, and then onto sandals for late spring and summer.

Ha, at the moment I'm just enjoying wearing all my boots (both taller ones and booties) that I normally wear in winter but couldn't this year due to the fact that there was snow on the sidewalks since January. When that novelty wears off, I still have my oxfords and cutout booties to look forward to.

And you know me. My favorite thing to wear is a dress + bare legs + boots so I guess the relative lack of spring shoes (I can't wear pumps or many low vamp styles) doesn't really bother me.

Of course I hear you This is the time of year that I wear pumps almost all of the time. Loafers too. But...I don't know about you, but none of those feel particularly fashion forward nor interesting. I was thinking about this last night in fact, and bemoaning the lack of options lately. Don't you find the local stores just seem to be repeating the same styles over and over again every spring? (I'm thinking of Town Shoes, and Browns...and even the Bay) I have no solutions nor suggestions - just waiting to find some cool -looking shoes myself. I actually find I don't want to wear booties at this time of year - I'm quite happy to take a break until fall.

Hate to tell you this Suz, but it's going up to +16 today! Of course there is snow in the forecast after that... :(

Cheryle - I'm hearing you on the footwear options. This in-between time of year can be tricky. I use nude knee highs this time of year quite a bit. I've also busted out the SM peep toe sandal booties (same ones that Suz has in black) today and due to the high, full coverage vamp feel they are wearable in this type of weather.

I do what Janet suggests. I also wear nude stockings and knee highs when it is too cold for bare legs. I have admired the white booties worn by Angie and Fabbers but have not found a pair without the flowerpot look for myself.

Your snow is GONE??

OY!!! (We still have tons of it here...)

Life in Canada, eh? For years I owned nothing but sandals and boots or booties. I still own almost no regular closed toe shoes. There is a 2 week window for them in spring (and often booties would also do if light coloured); and a two week window in autumn (and often sandals or booties will work instead). So they just are not a priority purchase. However, every year, for about a month, I rue the fact that I don't have more options!

My current solution:

Light coloured booties: I now have 3 pair. One is on its way out precisely for the flower pot reason you mention -- although I may keep it for this season since the light taupe is useful. The other two are the new bone booties from Israel and the python Pettys from Sam Edelman.

Oxfords: I have one pair of two-tone oxfords (light and dark). Two tone footwear is genius for bridging seasons. (You can wear it with dark or light bottoms).

For casual wear, I have Cons Hi-Ness hightops which I'll wear with socks until warm enough to go without. They are white, so the look is spring-like. I also have a pair of golfing oxfords made of vinyl (new purchase) for rainy days, and a pair of leopard slip on sneakers (also new).

In addition, I have one pair of wedge pumps in leopard (they hardly get worn due to my lifestyle) and a pair of low wedge black shoes. Plus a pair of burgundy pumps. But again, pumps are not a go-to for me.

Another option I have tried is Angie's black bootie trick -- wearing black bottoms and rolling them up to expose a bit of ankle but with black booties. It's still too cold for me to do that here, but I did it once last autumn.

Spring is my time to wear oxfords, closed-toe ankle strap shoes, slip-on sneakers, pumps (not that I have much in that department) and loafers. We don't have a long transitional season before we get into sandal weather here, so I try to wear those closed-toe non-boot shoes as much as I can in April and May!

I have been up for a while and searching out ideas for spring outfits that don't require open shoes. It is still cold here in the mornings and the snow just melted a week ago so I am not ready to wear bare feet yet so I am having trouble with outfits. I feel that my go-to booties are too dark or heavy for spring but my more open shoes are going to result in cold feet and I can't be comfortable if my feet are cold all day.

I have a pair of neutral booties that I am considering wearing with a cropped or rolled pant but they are a bit too flower potty for my taste and I would need to put a thick sock in that is low enough to be invisible in that flower pot.

What is a girl to do??? How do you deal with the spring shoe situation in colder weather?
