Kinda avant garde (the space-age version). For me, stockings are the key to a grown-up look with a short, flared skirt. So I favour #1, 2, and 4.

#3 is a harder look to be convincing in. It's needs attitude. I personally would do it, but I have my fall-back crutch: My hipster neighborhood. Attitude comes in the welcome basket from the neighbors, next to the hand-milled-grain crackers.

Do not laugh. We had a bakery where they totally hand-milled their own flour...

Wow Sharon! I was very intrigued to see with my own eyes your skater skirt styled in such a grown up style, I couldn't believe by reading the title only:-) They are all fab, and so so different!!! One of the very bests on the YLF to my eyes:-) My fave is 4? or 2? Or 1? Can't decide:-)

I love what you have done with it!! 1, 2, and 4 are my favorites for the graphic simplicity and interesting shapes.

In terms of the length of 4, I think it works, but if you wanted to try shorter can you tuck and kind of fold it down so it looks like a more cropped style? Some fabrics you can, some you can't IMO.

Thanks, everyone.
Deb, the jacket is Cue and it is on sale NOW. It is not on their website, but they had them in my local store, so it may be worth checking out. It has knit panels so it is almost like a cardigan to wear.
Gigi, I like waist definition too. I have a few wide belts and I could wear it with tucked collared shirts, but I was a bit worried about showing so much leg AND defining my torso in the same outfit. I will give it a go.

So much fun, Sharon! That jumper in #2 is absolutely stunning. No wonder it was a favourite. Glad you can still wear it.

I think my favourites here are #1 and #2, but all are good. Would you consider shortening the top in #4 or is it necessary to keep the length for other outfits? (Hey - I just had a thought -- how about fashion tape to make it temporarily shorter?)

You could also wear that (if shortened) over top of a silky white/ ivory shirt....

My absolute fave is #3. I think it's because there is some waist definition—you have a nice waist. :^) Are there any ways to add more waist definition to the other outfits? (I don't know but am just asking the question; I still consider myself a novice!)

Sharon you look amazing. These are all very cool outfits. #1 is my favourite (I love a column of black) and #2 follows closely. Do you mind me asking where the jacket in #1 is from, it's fab. I think you have mastered the skater skirt and taken it from being a juvenile look to being very fashion forward and edgy. I never look twice at skater skirts and dresses but now i think I might be seeing them in a very different light.

I have gone back to study this year, and whilst it is good to get back to normality, it is definitely imposing unwanted time constraints, so apologies for taking so long with this. A few weeks ago rabbit and Cocolion gave me some great suggestions about styling my inappropriately youthful skater skirt, and I have managed to take some photos today to show you how they came out!

rabbit's suggestions:
1.Column of colour. I like this a lot. The jacket gives the outfit a more sporty vibe than I am used to, but it is comfortable and warm.

2.Fluid top/knit. I've gone with both! This was my favourite jumper from last year and I am beyond happy that it still fits me OK. The whole cropped/loose fashion thing happened just in time

Cocolion's suggestions:
3.White T-shirt, checked shirt, black moto, no stockings, jumper tied at waist. I didn't have the right elements for this (who doesn't own a whte T-shirt? Me, as it turns out!) but this was my loose interpretation. Denise, as you promised, it is a LOT of fun. It possible feels a bit young to wear out, but I will definely wear this at home when I want to feel young and wild and free!

4.Cropped top- I suspect this top is not quite cropped enough, but I quite like the overall silhouette, and I think this will be good with a long-sleeved shirt or knit underneath when it gets cold.

Thank you to everyone who made suggestions about styling. Having spent a few days lounging around in this skirt at home, I think I am going to make it part of my winter uniform. It is just too comfortable and practical not to!
