Great, thanks Rute.

I wan't on the lookout for one, this had just found me so I gave it a thought Now that I did try it on and seen some ideas, I might give one a serious consideration, given that I do like vests.

Decision - not bought.

I went to the shop in very plain clothing and tried the vest over only black turtleneck and leggins (sort of blank canvas outfit so I can see only the vest). I did not like where the bottom of the vest hits me, which was exactly at the widest point of my hips. Although the front is shaped in a flattering way which actually did offset the widening effect almost entirely and the the v-neckline was not an issue on my body type due to wide and interesting collar, I still felt like gigantic red pear and not at all pearfect - so it stayed on the rack.

However, I can report that sales ladies were very nice and not pushy at all, so I will definitely be checking the place in the future, and were also very amused by me taking photos of myself in the big mirror and checking the vest from all angles.

And, I've confirmed a few things with regards with my likes and dislikes, which is valuable for the future.

Thanks for your input, something better is waiting for me

Lynne :: so great to see and READ you!!! We were typing at the same time, btw. Oh yes, my style has shifted - think casual, sporty, comfortable, stretchy... but deep down, because I am so limited in what I can wear as SAHM MOTG with no income at the moment, I daydream like mad, rethink my style goals and occasionally stumble upon pieces that just scream at me...

I'm back Una after a lot and lot and lot of snow last week. Thank you.

As for this vest looking like gear - I can see the possibilities for that too, but it's probably safe if I by it (which I'm still pondering, it's quite pricey) -- I hope I'd never make it look like gear.

Hello, lovely Ornella! I've been off the forum for ages so I need to catch up to where your style is evolving....as Suz says, this is certainly different to what I remember you wearing a year ago :).

I would remove season from your Con list; I am sure there will be lots of opportunities on cooler days and in the evenings to wear this into Spring. I love the neck and pin detailling and I agree with you re being somewhat timeless; it is an arty/statement piece.

I want to see this with your beret :). Lxo

I'm thinking what Suz said. This is what I think of as an arty piece. You could rock this style and color, but it could look like gear (people around here make stuff like this and wear it that way)...

Miss you, O!

This vest is beautiful! I looked at your style profile and I imagine that this vest could be worn with most neutrals. A Breton tee with straight or skinny pants. For me the juxtaposition of a arty piece, aka don't distract from the beauty of the piece almost begs for supporting others. It would great over a black sheath dress and a scarf under to protect the neck from itch. The possibilities seem endless!

JuneBug :: thanks for your input. I don't see this piece as trend or not trend, to me personally it is interesting enough to bypass the trend-related concerns altogether. It might be just me, but a few pieces I have which have similar vibe are surviving every single wardrobe editing.

k can shop :: I actually wore skinnies and tall boots on when I tried it on today. You are right, fitted pieces definitely work with it.

E :: the thought never crossed my mind... I think since it's been concluded in several WIWs that this particular shade of red works for me I should hope for compliments rather than jokes in most cases. Although, one never knows and I can no longer say say I hadn't been warned :-D

Suz :: it is arty and it speaks to me big time. My style definitely undergoes a shift - in my head at least, for now. I need to sleep over this one and rejig my budget if I wake up thinking I should get it.

It's a very arty sort of piece, Ornella. Do you think your style direction might be undergoing a slight shift? I can see you in this, don't get me wrong. And you would look amazing. Just thought I would raise it. I like the textural interest.

I think it would work over any fitted T as K can says. It would not have to be a T-neck, although that might help the itch factor, as you suggest.

Just so you know: I once had a vest in that colour, and people made a lot of jokes about air traffic control and landing planes.

Something to add to the list of cons?

I think any fitted tee would look great with this too. The shape seems like it would float away from the body, so I would anchor it with fitted tops and bottoms. I'd personally try something with a softly draped neck, but fitted middle, plus skinny jeans and ankle boots. I'd love to see it on!

If the price works out for you, I'd suggest you get it! I know it's almost Spring but this vest might work well as a casual topper then too! I can see it worn with a full sleeved shirt underneath and dark wash denims on booties. On a 3/4th sleeved black or neutral knit top with a pencil skirt.. On a dress. Also the color and the cut is classic in my opinion and assymetry is still on trend.

My bus passes this cute shop in which I spotted interesting belts long ago through the window and since I'm on a hunt for non-black wide belt I finally stopped over there today. No luck with belts, but as I was walking out this gorgeous vest was staring at me.

Pro 1: In my size.

Pro 2: In MY color.

Pro 3: It ticks so many other boxes - interesting cut with elements of asymmetry and striking collar.

Con 1: It's made of boiled wool (almost identical fabric and color to my favorite red dress, and I love that fabric), so it's pretty much end of season for it with spring around the corner, but it is an interesting piece that I can see myself wearing for a long time - if I buy it.

Con 2: Price tag.

Con 3: I'm clueless how to style it. The obvious idea is turtleneck (it's probably itchy on uncovered neck) and I was wearing one today, so that would definitely work. Any other ideas?? Are any other possibilities needed at all?
