Neel, I agree that all these look great and not twee. I actually like skater skirts myself and have a couple of them. They can be really fun and flirty, as unfrumped says.

My favorite outfits of those you posted are the ones with the toppers. I find that structure on top looks best to me when wearing skater skirts, and all of your toppers have very clean, structured lines. But all the outfits were nice. And I don't think that the heels look overly girly. I like to wear my skater skirts with a pair of simple heeled booties. You could try that if you want a bit of a less feminine look for the footwear.

Oh well .... In this case the answer is simple. I want to wear it because DH bought it! I can't return it. So, I want to wear it in a way that I am comfortable in and yet look attractive for him. Only because he bought it ;). I normally don't do that. Really :)

I really appreciate your honest response, unfrumped. Thank you.

I think I may take a different approach to some styling issues and questions.

I think, why is it that you want to wear that skirt ? That's not a loaded question, it's just a basic question about what draws us to certain items and to create certain outfits. Because then we get to, wear the skirt but be sure it's not twee or do things to mitigate twee-ness. (just using twee as the going term; not sure that's even the right term). So the question is, what kind of look does that skirt help you achieve--maybe fun and flirty? and then you're just trying to line all of that up to the right degree. Why this skirt and not another skirt? Or get the look another way?

Examples would be, sometimes I'm trying an item and I just know it's right, all the way. But then there might be an item that has some very specific features I need, but I'm not sure it checks all the other boxes I'd also like, or how to style so it does. For me, shoes are a good example. As in, these shoes are SO comfortable and "go" with lots of outfits, but...are they frumpy? Or, this longer skirt length is really elegant, but most stylings are shown with heels--if I style it with flats, will that destroy the very look I was hoping to achieve? Or, what features do the flats need to get closest to that look? Or maybe a perfect dress in the not-best color--it might be worth adding scarf or jewelry or topper to make it work.

Honestly, the only one I'm not fond of is #2. The neutrals or more tonal looks in the others keep the color palette more sophisticated and steer you away from twee. Nicely done!

Thank you for your very helpful comments ladies.

Leopardluxe - You are very sweet! I am glad I inspired you to wear your own skaters. I can't wait to see them. I am sure you could make them look bad ass!

Unfrumped - When I wore that skirt with a few other tops and shoes I did feel overly twee! I tried to wear those heels to give it a more grown up vibe. Sneaks and ballet flats were taking me to the little-girl-skipping-to-school territory! I could try more masculine/RATE footwear choices like loafers, oxfords and slip on sneaks. Which is why I included my studded flats and brown oxfords in the outfits above. I could surely do all the outfits with RATE flats. But sadly I own only 2 for now that suit the skirt. Does the skirt look twee with girly heels?

It's a pretty skirt and I like the pink/ blush with some black- the polka dots are fab That length several inches above the knee in a flare is going to look somewhat twee ( not called a skater skirt for nothing) and also more off balance with heels-/ compared to more grown up sheath styles above knee-- so it depends on your style persona and what you're aiming for.

In all honesty there's not a single outfit you've shown that even hints at twee, imho. All your stylings look spot-on for an adult --and incredibly stylish as well! I especially love #5, #6 and #8.

I know what you mean about skater skirts feeling twee, though. I have several I used to wear a lot when I lived in Vegas and they are a style I love because they are flattering on my petite frame, but I struggle with wearing them as I've gotten older because I feel like they look very teenager-like. I have the same struggle with fit and flare dresses even though those are my favorite style of dress.

So your outfits have definitely inspired me to break out my skater skirts more once the weather warms up a bit (alas, our heatwave is over and we are back down to mid 60's weather, so no short skirts for me till the next heatwave hits).

My challenge: How to achieve a look that is NOT twee with a skater skirt!

The color and the style read very twee to me! I do have skater skirts - but longer and in darker colors and mostly evening wear kind. Somehow they don't feel as twee! I am wearing a nude hose to feel *covered*! Is this nude hose ok for me? It's my first! And I wonder if I should go a shade lighter. My arms seem to be a tad lighter than my legs. I understand it might be difficult to figure that out due to the lighting issues.

So here are my attempts at looking like a grown up! Please help me to figure out the passes and fails! Anything that looks overly twee will not be worn again!

1) With black polka dotted blouse, black leather shoulder patch blazer and cut out booties.
2) With a green boxy top and nude sling back pumps. The top's a christmas green and looks much better IRL with the peach skirt!
3) With a cropped white top and brown cut out oxfords.
4) With a floral top and nude sling back pumps.
5) With a black jeweled tee, classic black blazer and black ankle strap pumps
6) With a white fluid top, mixed media white blazer and nude pumps. I am not sure if the shoes work here.
7) A zara copy attempt (in Finds)! I could have used my brown oxfords. Oh well! I noticed that the skirt sits much lower on the model. The only way I can get this skirt to zip is if I wear it at my natural waist which is very high!
8) With a floral black and white tank, denim jacket and black ankle strap pumps
9) With a flowy hi-low black tunic and black ankle strap pumps

Thanks for looking and sorry for the pic heavy posts of late! Now I am off to clear my bed that has a mountain of clothes that I just pulled out from my closet o_O
