Great question. I find this type of skirt hard to style, it's an awkward length for me. I love the peplum idea.

Thank you for the reply Deb, I agree that options #1 and #4 from Skylurker's post are very fresh yet doable.

I am going to try and use some of these fun suggestion and build a capsule around the silk JCrew skirt, same one that Suz has. Post coming soon!

Skylurker's offerings are on point. 1 and 4 look great to my eye and 2 is a nice silhouette. Good ideas to consider.

I love Skylurker's looks. Pic #4 is my fav. I have a special occasion midi skirt but would love an everyday one. Not denim. Denim is too hard to style.

This is a look I love vicariously. I cleaned out my closet this weekend and gave my DD the last of my full skirts. They don't suit my frame as well as they do hers. I love how these skirts swish and twirl when you move around. i love the 3rd look posted by Skylurker. It's striking for not having a form fitting top half along with the skirt. The length and I assume the sleeve design give it enough structure.

I really like the look of midi skirt + boxy shorter length tops, but I have yet to make that a reality in my wardrobe.

Midi skirts are a wardrobe staple for me but I don't think I have put enough thought into styling them.

I've been wearing them with simple t-shirts, semi-tucked, but I find that really boring.
Suz your split back top looks amazing! (and definitely not boring)
Sylurker, I really like the peplum.

You've got a nice curatorial eye, skylurker! I think I'd have missed all of these.

I'm following this thread closely. I have full skirted dresses that I love to wear, skirts not so much. I fumble trying to balance the inherent sweetness.

What I've seen in the new resort collections : with a peplum, a long tunic and several looks with a belted top (shirt, jacket, cardi), the '70s way.

Oooh! Great question, Tanya! This should be helpful to me as well!

My options so far for my J. Crew are tucked shirts (tuxedo white, periwinkle, striped linen/cotton blend, and chambray, among others). Tucked or semi tucked linen tees. Roomy cropped sweater or fluid welted sweater (but it will be too warm to wear these most of the time). Hi-low split back top. Sleeveless t-neck, tucked or not.

I'll also wear with cropped jackets (white and blue denim).

I don't have Finds for all options, alas, but you get the idea. I don't think there is anything particularly new here except maybe the split back top. I tried this with a different full skirt last year; most people loved it but some didn't care for the look.

After pencil skirts, the next type of bottom to get serious consideration on how to style it in the most current way are full, fit&flare, knee length or midi skirts. Angie had a great ensemble post on this topic 2 years ago I have linked too, in which she suggests that more current top pairing for such skirt are tucked denim/chambray shirt, welted fine gauge sweater, upscale sweatshirt and roomy high-low crop top. Those ideas are still plenty fun and current these days, and I am wondering if there are any new pairings that emerged in the past two years. I am very curious about your suggestions and as always, visuals are encouraged.
