Then people caught on to the idea that you could tuck them into tall boots -- and they got skinnier and stretchier to facilitate that and prevent knee-bag out (and they did not always have the scrunch). And then they got truly "calf-sucking" so a skinny was more like a denim legging, most of the time. For those with muscular calves, these were unwearable unless they had a lot of stretch to them. And if they were too low rise, and you had muscular thighs and slim to average hips, they would fall down without a belt because the stretchy material would just slip and slide. ;)&nbsp;</p> <p>And then we had "slim straights" again (at various rises), and cigarettes, and stovepipes. And there we sit, with quite a few of these still available at retail because we like and buy them for a reason! I have these Jen 7 jeans that are slender, ankle, my best fitting denim by far and I always feel fab in them. I pair them with a vagabond cap toe (though same wine/brown color way, not contrast, saw them here first!) bootie, slight higher shaft meets bottom of the jeans so you can see these beautiful booties! Worn with black sweater, gold layered jewelry (it’s kind of the same basic layering you see all over the inter web haha but it makes me feel on trend with what would otherwise be just jeans and a black sweater.). I top it with a subtle herringbone patterned overcoat (slate and brown/wine and tan), just to knee length and finished with a lovely brown/wine scarf. I get random and appreciative compliments EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I wear this. So I wear it a lot. Like you, trying to figure out what elements combine to replicate this. Well, I guess I just listed them! When I remove jacket I still have jewelry, scarf, bootie complement to carry through.
