What a fab dress! I would think sandals for the heat factor. Such a great Indian shade of orange too.

Thanks runner chick! I do agree that it would be 100% okay to wear this to a lot of the hip places in Chennai. I go there atleast once a year and last went in December :-)

But I am not comfy wearing these outfits in autos/call taxis when I am travelling alone. You don't have to tell me twice about the mangoes, I plan to feast on them if I find them. It is so cool that you are from Chennai, it is my husband's home

Kirti - I don't know how recently you have been in Chennai but when I was there a couple of months ago, I couldn't help noticing how much more fashion forward of a city it has become compared to what it was like when I grew up there 20 years ago.

It does depend on the neighborhood -- and there are pockets of the city that feel exactly as they did two decades ago, for sure -- but there are a number of shops, restaurants, and other public places where I'm positive that you would not be out of place wearing the kind of WiW outfits that you post on this forum. Just sayin' (as I put a small fashion plug in for my hometown :)

Your trip sounds like fun. I was there in May, which is probably the hottest month of the year! I wonder if mangoes and sitaphals are still going to be around. If they are, please eat one (of each) for me!

Sylvie: Frankly, everything in India is airconditioned now - my house, my car and any places that I will travel to (malls, relatives houses etc.) will also have air conditioning! So, I'll be okay in oxfords I am carrying sandals too, for when we are actually outside. Thanks for the suggestions! I have just one cardi which I didn't try, so I will do that asap.
I am carrying a mix of Indian clothes and Western ones. Chennai is more conservative than Delhi and I will be using public transport there, so I will be in flowy Indian clothes or light cotton tops and jeans. Delhi is more fashion forward and I won't be travelling by autorickshaw or taxi, so I will wear my dresses there, plus shorts and t shirts.

The dress is beautiful as you have styled it. I wonder if you won't be too hot wearing oxfords in India - perhaps since you used to live there you are more acclimatized to the heat but I can't stand to wear anything except sandals.

I would love to see you pair the dress with some colorful bangles or a metallic belt or a brightly colored very lightweight cardigan.

I had a pink/coral dress I wore on my last trip with an acid green cardigan. Also, since I don't wear Indian clothes except for weddings, I found that a tunic top + leggings let me beat the heat, "sort of" fit in, and kept my style true to myself.

Remember the coral dress I bought during the sales? For those of those who don't, it is a coral eyelet dress that is 100% cotton and fully lined. Sadly, I haven't been able to wear it since I was unwell and unable to go anywhere.

But I am travelling to India next month and it is going to be very hot there, so I hope that I can wear it a few times during the trip. As I did for my Paris travel capsule, I decided to style the dress in a few different ways. What do you think?

Pics 1&2 are with my two toned oxfords and different necklaces. I could also wear my red ballet flats with these two outfits.

Pics 3&4 are with my navy obi, both tied like a traditional obi and tied back to create a regular belt. I could also wear my metallic sandals with these outfits.

Pics 5&6 are with my dark red obi, with my metallic sandals in one outfit and my oxfords in the second.

Do any of these work? I don't want the dress to have a very fancy or dressed up vibe, I'm aiming for stylish yet casual. :-)

P.S. I'm going to be in India for a month and I'm still working on a travel capsule, so expect a lot more 'India travel outfits' posts!
