I've also welcomed black back to my wardrobe this past year - I think taking a break from it is useful because it can be such a default ... a break allowed me to be a bit more intentional with it. (I promise, I look really ill in them) I am much more into cool brights and as they tend to look a bit cheap next to black I have replaced all my black with navy. Earth tones on the other hand looks super stylish with black and I'm sure you'll look great in it! I've come at it from the other angle: a closet full of black and navy, and a desire to add some warmth. I love pairing rust/mustard/olive with black, especially with a dash of white or cream. Next up on my list is toffee/camel. The Boden cardi in Conker caught my eye as well. Robin, that is a good way of describing the effect of earth tones on black.   Soothing.  I like that.   Kathie, I am always surprised by how well black works in my wardrobe.  Not sure why but it does. I love black, it is a basic in my wardrobe, and I really like your color combinations here. I find black is much less stark with warm colors, more soothing maybe. Cardiff girl, you are so right.  Black always sneaks into my wardrobe.  I wore it a lot in the 90s and then swore off of it.  Now I am going to embrace it.  Life is easier that way. Thanks, Suz!  Black actually works better with rust and olive than dark brown IMO.  Sets it off.  And it is so much easier to find. Fashintern, orange with black does seem like Halloween but I also am not fond of the combination.  I prefer orange with blue or purple. Rachy, exciting times! Sal, I love all those colour combinations too!  We have similar colouring so that makes sense. Unfrumpted, I agree with you about the orange and black.  I love orange but I do find it combined with black a bit jarring.  I find rust and cognac come alive with black. Yes, Carla!  Black is back. Jussie, I have been thinking about the forest green with black.  I was looking for a sweater in that colour.  I do have lots of olive.  Angie, I absolutely adore that sweater but it only comes in XS and the model is wearing S.  I don't think that is a good sign.  All my sweaters are S and they are the same measurements (I find that amazing). Thank you, Windchime!  Finding jeans is an ordeal for me. Bijou, I love the sweater but I am pretty sure it is not going to work.  :(  Style Shift is like new energy. Smittie, shopping for footwear is so much easier!  Black is everywhere.  I like black with rust and olive and those colours are in my wardrobe.  Easy. I do think black + swaths of bright orange can be fraught, but the deep rusts and cognacs are divine. Black sets them off beautifully. Plus as you know you can add black in small doses to an otherwise earth- toned outfit and it can be very sharp and a little more interesting or unexpected than more browns.
