I found Rome to the most fashion forward...I assumed because it was the most culturally diverse due to the huge influence/ world wide nature of the Catholic Church. I loved it there. I was most impressed with the young women with long beautiful hair riding around on their scooters--what were they called then?--and wearing highest of heels. It was September and I can't remember what the women wore, and now I want to go look back at our photos.&nbsp;</p> <p>One night we dined at the Michelin starred restaurant Don Alfonso 1890 and got to know a young English couple sitting next to us. We had such a good time and stayed so long the owners let us go down a steep staircase past the cheese area to see the wine cellar. The young woman was a barrister who was annoyed because Americans often asked her if she was one of the Bush daughters. Well, she climbed down the narrow winding staircase that went from cement to metal steps wearing these incredibly high heeled open backed shoes. Nary a slip.&nbsp;</p> <p>While visiting Anacapri we bought $5,000 worth of furniture--which arrived on our doorstop in due time. I still love to look at my lovely Italian tables. DH learned his lesson not to take the back trail back down to the boat dock! I've spent time in Rome and Venice and Cinque Terre&nbsp; and in the more northern regions (Florence, Milan, Turin, Alba, etc.) The style was one thing I just adored, and you are right that it varies so much region to region.</p> <p>I love the linen! I didn't find anything clothing-wise, although I did pick up a couple of makeup items. There were one or two cute tops; one I didn't have a need for though,and the other (a cute aqua and white striped long cardi) my son sensibly talked me out of, noting that I'd probably wear it once and then be done with it.
