Brooklyn, you indeed had a tough year and hubby said it so well unfortunately -we all end up to reorder our priorities when a health problem occures but think spending time with our pets and hobbies can help in the healing process.

Loved your new approach on editing your closet which can be such a hard duty for some of us -me included-(and my reasons are same as yours) so highlighting generousity as a motivator is so clever and inspirative- a thing to consider myself, too. Your fab outfits here also show how having already a great style and a good wardrobe can easen up our daily life-they really do some hard work for us when needed.

Your wedding guest outfit was brilliant- but all your other outfits here were a treat to my eyes- as always when you post. Great idea collecting them together in a representative thread for 2025 and I was all smiles to see your lovely doggie doing the same thing our beautiful dalmatian girl is doing us: she always wants to hide her head in/under our clothing:-) so I can relate for not being able to keep precious clothing items with such bigger breeds like our's.

Wishing You all the best in the New Year, Brooklyn, and am looking forward how your style will evolve again!

Brooklyn- reading this and I’m not really sure what to say, but your comments around generosity hit hard. What a lovely way to approach the world and a wonderful way to celebrate life and all the messiness that goes with it.

Took me a minute to digest the fact that you and the family have been under such strain. A lot of changes.
Laughed a bit at the style conclusion that all the outfits, pretty much, can be worn walking the dog.
Yup, being comfortable and moving freely seem like the least we can do for ourselves!
May you and the lovely dog be well, and always look this great.

What a year you’ve had! I bet that was scary and such a relief to be clear now. I can certainly understand how that would adjust your mindset.

Brooklyn, First, let me say I am so happy to hear you're in the clear with the cancer. The feeling of gratitude is one to hold on to.

I can relate to so many parts of your post. I have also become more self indulgent and self forgiving in the last year and my impulses are shifting to some degree, while still staying within the range of what I consider to be reasonable.

I also want to say that all of your outfits look fabulous. I couldn't settle on a favourite. You wear the outfits so well. There's cohesivess to your style even though each outfit is unique.

What a journey you have been on. So glad for the in the clear results. And glad that you have kept charging ahead with your unique and gorgeous style , and all your dye experiments, most of which seem to turn out wonderfully.

I’ve got the over-duplicate and save genes also. If I’m having success with say a shorter length shirt or sweater, I’ll think, oh, I need to get it in another color or find another very similar, instead of trying to enjoy 1 of each of several different styles or lengths. Also moving away from trickier fabrics. I still love them, and I don’t have a dog, but am finding there are too many items that don’t travel well or fit in with grandchildren—not just packing, but needing them to tolerate “ regular” laundry methods, not hovering over washer cycle or dryer.

Warm wishes for a very good 2026.

I am sorry to hear you had such a hard health challenge but delighted you are cancer free. What a year for you. And I like what your husband said. I bet your London trip was a great reset after what you had been through.

Style wise you continue to be an inspiration. I see more variety of colour and silhouette with white and purple and blue and mustard. Both muted and clearer colours. But all very true to your elegant modern and textured style.

It’s hard to pick a favourite but the teal pants and the long bronze skirt are true iconic pieces that I admire greatly.

And yes - handing on quality pieces is very different to fast fashion. I have benefited from some great second hand pieces this year and I am grateful to the donors.

Siena is indeed a reason to keep practicality in mind. What a cutie.

Oh Brooklyn I am so sorry to hear about your cancer but very glad your treatment was successful. Although I am lucky enough to have not faced a health challenge this year, so many of your thoughts resonated. Living in a country at war (which horrified me on many levels) has led to very similar feelings about small indulgences that can make me feel better. As a thrift store stockist (haha, I mean sorter), I have to say that I am very grateful to anyone who donates nicer things to a charity shop. It is those nicer things that sell well and quickly and support the charitable programs that are the reason the store exists. And I was nodding (vigorously) along with this: I’ve also come to accept that my style is a passion and a hobby...Life is about the journey.

Apart from all that, your style is absolutely gorgeous! I just loved flipping through your photos thinking about how you tinkered with each one to make it perfect. Finally, Siena in #26 might be my spirit animal.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes and the lovely comments. My style is regal!! I told my husband to take note of that next time he accompanies me to the dog park Seriously though, you are all very generous in your comments. I am chuffed.

Sarah, I am a duplicator too and I think you are right that the scarcity mentality has a role in that. Sometimes I over duplicate, and regret it. Sometimes I don’t duplicate, and regret it. It’s hard to foresee where our wants or needs will take us. Over duplication is something I try to be more self forgiving about if the item is inexpensive. I guess I lean toward better safe than sorry.

Ket, my childhood was similar. It’s hard to shake that off. I gave all my designer office appropriate wear to Dress for Success (I know Angie does the same). I remind myself how thrilled I would have been to wear a designer dress when I was just starting out my career. (It came much later for me, and only through careful bargain hunting, but it was still thrilling.) It’s nice to share that joy around.

I'm very thankful to hear you are in the clear and your health is now moving forward on a good track. Many warm congratulations to you <3

Your style is just so, so good! I fear that if I part with something I will never be able to find or afford something similar when I want it or need it again.

I come from a childhood heavy with scarcity. It is so lovely and a good reminder for me.

Here's to rocking in 2026!

Brooklyn I am so glad to know that you are healthy and cancer-free. That's the most important part.

I found your musings about how your illness affected your approach to style fascinating. I recognize what you say about the "scarcity" mentality. (I think a similar scarcity mentality often drives me to buy "backups" or duplicates rather than moving my style forward.) Something about letting go of that, and the "be generous" mantra, really underlines the importance of living in the present moment. You have given me a lot to think about.

Love seeing the rich, prismatic series of your outfit shots. So varied and yet so cohesive. As always for me, the dog steals the show, and I fully endorse building a wardrobe that aids you in maximally enjoying time with her. <3

Here's to a healthy and creative 2026 for all.

Oh, Brooklyn. Soooo sorry you had to deal with a cancer diagnosis. A stressful ordeal. Extremely relieved for you and your loved ones that you're clear! Onward to a brilliantly healthy and better 2026. xo

I LOVE your attitude! Yes to being more self-indulgent. If not now - when? The world is in a bad place, and we have to get our jollies where we can. Fashion and style makes you happy. Milk it. Bonus that your indulgences are thoughtful and practical, no matter what. Can't go wrong, and please carry on! ;)

The thriving secondhand market cannot exist without people passing on items. Wish more people remembered that!

I'm with Suz and Dee! Your KILLER GORGEOUS style has never looked more beautiful, signature, confident, and appealing. Very identifiable, inspirational, focussed and honest! Evolution happens organically because style is innate for you. You lucky fish!

#26 and #27 melt my heart. What a sweetheart. Siena enjoys your wardrobe as much as you do. Even better :)

You’ve always had such wonderful style sense and artistry BROOKLYN, lts in your DNA. Your outfits and colour stories are always very inspirational. So happy to hear you're in a better place with your health. I couldn't agree more that when you have health issues nothing else matters more.
I also feel the same way about not wanting to own anything that's too precious or fussy when it impedes the way I actually want to live my life. All the best in 2026.

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful and honest reflection. I'm glad to hear you're in the clear now! The shift in perspective you've described really resonates —toward what truly matters, what brings you genuine happiness, and letting go of both worry and a scarcity mentality—is so inspiring.
Your "be generous" mantra is lovely, and I think you're absolutely right that donating quality pieces is an act of generosity.
I especially love how you've embraced outfits that work for your happiest moments—there's something wonderfully freeing about building a wardrobe around real joy and those peek-a-boo and beach pillow photos are priceless as well as definitely worth every fashion "sacrifice."

Wishing you many more wonderful walks, continued experiments and creative satisfactions, and all the joy that comes from the journey!
