I love what you wrote above about the downside of narrowing your options - I so identify with that, but I do enjoy narrowing my style. Hmmmm. Something for me to think about in other areas of my life.
Also: "modern American sportswear" is close to meaningless for me, but "cowgirl on her way to the beach" is fantastic. Go, Laura!
Are you stocking up on cowboy heel booties, since they are so popular right now?

You're starting to corral that description pretty well, I'd say!

Your post reminds me of one Una made about a year ago just before she really started hitting her style chops BIG time! Exciting times.

Fantastic, Laura; how about cowgirl meets beach babe :). It's great to capture your style, and you can always update your style mantra as you go along.

Sounds like you really are getting a grip on this style question. I can't wait to see what cowgirl on her day off going to the beach wears - sounds like so much fun.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who weighed in on my recent K/R, but didn't want to bring the post back to the top unnecessarily. Part of me resented everyone's replies a little even though the other part of me agreed with you - I wanted those 'not-me' items to work because I didn't want to feel so fenced in. But then I realized I was thinking about it the wrong way. Isn't it good that I now know what suits my style and my body so quickly? That's what I've been wanting for a while; I should be happy that decisions are getting faster! (It's almost like when you're in college and have to declare a major - until then you can fantasize that anything is possible and after that you have to admit that you can't do anything and everything all the time, and maybe you're not good at most of the things anyway and never will be.)

I've been working on a phrase to describe my style. I think I'm getting there a little bit. For weekdays it's something along the lines of 'modern American sportswear' (a term which I dislike because it has nothing to do with sports, but there you go) - structure, mostly solid strong colors, no drapiness or avant-garde, but also without leaning toward too much preppy or too much business wear. OK, that's not down to a phrase yet...

For the weekends I think I've got it: "cowgirl on her day off, maybe going to the beach". Practical, functional, hints of Americana.

Anyway, thank you to all of you because you've helped me figure out my style so much, and perhaps as important have made me feel like it's something worth spending time on, and that how I look is important and that I deserve to think about style and feel good.
