@style fan: I checked out your blog tips and love seasons & salt and emma hill! I already knew Stylebee and although she has great style she is too avant garde to inspire me directly. But I love that my outfits made you think of them!

Again, everyone, thank you, so much inspiration!
Lol@torontogirl - so soon?!
Also, I obviously photographed some nicer outfits that I wore to work, milk stained fleece vests and trainers are a reality as well :-D.

I think avant-garde sounds too extreme for my tastes, edgy or with a twist do seem accurate though (in an aspirational sense). Minimalist with a twist actually sounds fun and simple :-).

Retro modern college professor unexpectedly tickles me too! I do like to play a bit with the librarian vibe (though on pinterest this conjures up images of girls in frocks with colorful cardies...). People also often think I’m a teacher when they first meet me, but that would make a vague and uninspiring moniker imo.

I'm with rachylou. I see avant-garde here. I see "classic" in that you have some classic pieces--trousers, pencil skirt, button-down silky shirt--but with an avant-garde twist. I wonder if "avant-garde classic" would be too much of a contradiction? Maybe Avant-Garde Classic Minimalist?

I think your style looks great and not at all boring. Your look seems very intentional to me. The interesting cuts go a long way in keeping things interesting. I would look at color, pattern, and texture if you want to add more interest.

Hi there,
Congratulations on becoming a parent.
I really like these outfits! I also agree there’s some classic- but also something a little funky and a little retro there too... the tweedy pants, the printed blouse, the turtleneck.
I’d almost put you into “retro-modern college professor” category. You look really put-together.
Good luck with it!

Hi Liesbeth great to "meet" you. And congrats on becoming a mother. I still remember how amazing that felt, 27 years ago. Bringing tears to my eyes, truly. ( She says stopping to blow nose).
I see masculine in pic 1, feminine in pic 2, androgynous in pic 5. Not sure about 3 and 4. I love 4 and actually think there is a bit of avant-garde there, like Rachylou.
Looking back, I did dress somewhat boringly for several years. Many days I didn't care about that. I did still dress up for some occasions and maintain a little quirk sometimes. But not all the time. And it didn't matter at all. I did lose myself a bit though so if you can maintain some style awareness good for you!

Welcome! I like your style and it looks like it would work well for your lifestyle. I don't see it as classic but more minimalistic. I follow bloggers like Emma Hill (British), Style Bee and Seasons and Salt. Your style reminds me of theirs. They create interest with texture and subtle uses of colour, which is what Smittie said. You also give off a very relaxed vibe.

Oh, I quite like your base style here! But I don’t see Classic - I see a touch of the avant-garde. The movie ‘Metropolis’ comes to mind. A bit of Japanese influence in Western Art comes to mind.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies so soon! I do try to use texture for interest but again, rather subtly (and it’s not always an easy thing to select items on). And yes, I like some rock and roll in my style icons but don’t easily feel like myself in tougher outfits. I only own two short leather jackets (one moto) that I combine with classic pieces to take off the edge... I easily feel too boyish if I actually dress like, say, Charlotte Gainsbourg!

1st --Welcome!

and how great that you are starting out by wanting to define your style moniker!

I see modern and classic...but i took a look at your profile and based on your style icons, do you want to add something like that speaks to a more rock and roll, and/or tougher persona or quirky?

maybe Modern Classic with a Twist?

I definitely see "classic" (styles, shapes, fabrics, colours). I also see "simple/minimalist" and "chic casual."
How about Classic Casual Chic or something like that?

You are super super cute!
I think these outfits are simple, but I like them like that.
I think you might be a natural “minimalist” dresser. I think the only thing I’d look at is creating interesting textures and interesting muted colour combinations.

For a moniker, I don’t see “Classic”! I see a bit of trendy, minimalism, texture, muted colours.

I do see “current”.

I’m currently going through a style change because I became a mother. Not only has it been well over a year since I was able to wear my regular clothes (pregnancy and postpartum period combined) and I’m faced with changes in fashion - I’m also forever juggling to keep up with laundry, look somewhat presentable and be able to hold my baby without worrying about my clothes. While I’ve always found comfort inportant and my style has always been relatively ‘plain’, I’m worried that I’m sliding into ‘boring’ territory because even the simplest of accessories are often too time-consuming or delicate for my life now. That being said, I do wear the outfits underneath with confidence in my daily life. What do you think? Do I look stylish or lost? And if stylish, then what could my moniker be?

I’m thinking something like ‘current classic’ because I always like current variations on classic pieces, like my stretchy pencil skirt, oversized shirt dress and tweed trousers.

Maybe ‘subtle’ too, because I do like some muted color, tiny details (like the sewn in crease in the tweed trousers, or the tassles on my flats), quirky (upon close inspection) prints (like on the blouse, there are tiny birds) to keep my outfits interesting....

I’m feeling ‘feminine’ too, more now than before becoming a mom...
