Chris, I'm glad that the job is treating you well outside of the wardrobe. And at least purple is one of the more flattering color choices even if the uniform isn't great.

What are the options you have for pants or skirts? Is it only khaki or black that is allowed? It seems like you might be able to find some great black skirts too if that's an option.

I like NCYogini and MariannaCecile's ideas to play up accessories - that sounds like an interesting challenge since the basic outfit will mostly stay the same from day to day.

Accessories will probably be your lifesaver. I worked in a restaurant all through high school and half of college and had to wear a uniform of black trousers, white shirt, tie, and apron. NOT flattering or cute. I always had on really fun accessories to add personality to the outfit. Accessories made the uniform less dreadful.

Chris - my condolences on the bad uniform. But I'm so happy that you like your new job!

NCYogini's advice seems good: you can personalize things slightly with your accessories. Hopefully that will help.

Chris, I just want to encourage you! I've been getting used to wearing a uniform at my new job too. I think it's great that you like the people you work with; and although the vest does sound unpleasant you are putting your own special touches in here and there. I very much like the shoes you have chosen.

I like to think about just how easy wearing a uniform makes some parts if my life. And on weekends, I can dress up, even over-dress up and have a perfect excuse. Best of all, most of your clothing purchases now can be 100% for fun! And since you buy less, you can spring for more really fabulous pieces.

I'm glad you're enjoying the new job!

I put Style in quotes because honestly there isn't much that's good about my new job wardrobe wise. Pretty depressing actually (we have company shirts - I've yet to receive some official purple ones so stuck wearing white tops with a horrible purple vest over. I am planning to take one of the vests to a tailor as soon as my other shirts show up.)

It was a sad day for me - I rotated my closet and shoe back of door storage to put my heels "away" and my former work things further back. I do like the new job - love the people! - but the outfitting lives a lot to be desired. Sorry for venting but this is the only group of people I know who would understand!

Been stocking up on black slacks. I found a pair of khaki at a LOFT outlet but I really am not a khaki person. Did pick up a nice Kkhaki pencil skirt at outlet though - no one else wears skirts but they are technically allowed lol.

Also focused on shoes! I have been "off" my feet so much that I have to go for comfort. Since I will be on hardwood or cement/lino flooring, rubber soles are key.

In last few weeks I have purchased:

Joan and David Circa loafers in a grayish black (link is for purple - would have picked those but mine were $30 clearance at macy's)
http://www.zappos.com/circa-jo.....le-reptile

Me Too Legend in black patent (I think I'll order the gray in these! So comfortable - like wearing a slipper).
http://www.zappos.com/product/7567639/color/200

Also been sporting my red Me Too Garners.

I tried on about 40 "comfort" styles to find the two I purchased. Me Too is my brand of choice - the Ecco's are wide on me, the Cole Haans tight, the Aerosoles frumpy, the Skechers ugly.
